Musana Announces New Online Music Service
With the digital music market just ripe for more innovative economic models, Musana announced an exciting new online music service. Musana (= "Music Nirvana") is a groundbreaking new way for consumers to enjoy their music through a unique and ubiquitous experience, with a one-stop shop for more content. It provides users with free online storage and on-demand streaming access to their complete digital music library from any device, whether PC or mobile. "In a crowded market of digital music services, Musana is providing a different and much easier user experience. Wherever they are - for instance, traveling on business or visiting friends - our users can enjoy a free, on-demand music experience similar to the one they enjoy in their own living room," states Frédéric Thuard, co-founder & CEO of Musana. Whether used via a PC or on a mobile handset, using the Musana music player is similar to working with a CD collection. "Because listening to music online should not mean sorting through a tedious list of digital files, we allow users to visualise album covers and open a CD case to access their files. This is all part of the fun of enjoying music in the real world, so we are simply replicating the normal user experience in the digital world," explains Frédéric Thuard. The Musana service provides music identification for each file through Gracenote's MusicID technology. Gracenote is a global leader in embedded technology with European headquarters in Berlin, Germany. The company provides recognition technology, enriched content, data services and embedded solutions for digital entertainment products and services. "We are excited to work with Musana because of their vision of the new digital market and willingness to execute on this strategy," says Simon Hossell, European Sales Director for Gracenote. "They understand that consumers' primary concern is ease of use and the availability of value added services, and that this will drive new patterns of consumption. Such an initiative is a positive signal to the music industry." While providing free streaming access to music for the initial service, Musana will progressively deploy an ad-supported business model linked to the affiliation of value added services such as content recommendation and purchasing. Frédéric Thuard explained: "as the music industry struggles to get a clearer picture of how advertising will help build new revenues, Musana is a straightforward and quality-centric answer to strong user demand for free, legal online music services." With the new service currently available upon invitation, Musana aims to roll out new features shortly including a recommendation engine, community features, and mobile access. "Musana is the Music Happiness Centre... a place where you, your friends and your music all feel good", said Frédéric Thuard.
