Studio City Sound Shines With Star Power - Stellar Holiday Season As Legendary Recording Studio Welcomes Famous Names
Website: http://www.StudioCitySound.com/ (Studio City, CA) December 18, 2009 -- Studio City Sound (SCS) has launched the holiday season with an unforgettable week to remember, as the stars aligned and the legendary recording studio welcomed some of the most famous names in entertainment as they lent their talents to a variety of high profile projects. SCS is definitely the place to be for high wattage star power. During the space of one short week in November, SCS welcomed world renowned session musicians, guitarists Steve Lukather and Tim Pierce, percussionist Luis Conte, drummers Vinnie Colaiuta, Josh Freese and Matt Luag, bassist Paul Bushnell, prolific songwriter Holly Knight, TV/Film actors Gary Sinise and Courtney B. Vance. Grammy-award® winning guitar legend Steve Lukather, a founding member of Toto who is also known for his work with Michael Jackson, George Benson, Stevie Nicks, and many others, visited SCS while working on a project for multi-platinum international rock band NELSON led by rockers Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, twin sons of Rock'nRoll Hall of Famer Rick Nelson. Gunnar & Matthew Nelson have a long history at Studio City where their father Rick recorded, and also arranged for their very first recording session as a birthday gift. NELSON has a new album coming out with Frontiers Records -- an originally commissioned sequel to "After the Rain" called "Lightning Strikes Twice". While at SCS, Steve met with fellow guitar legend Tim Pierce (who has worked sessions with hundreds of artists including Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Christina Aguilera, to name a few). Pierce, was at SCS working on a new album by alternative rockers Shallow Zenith with Grammy Awarding mixer Tom Weir. Pierce works frequently with SCS clients along with the hundreds of recording artists, television shows and movie clients for which he performs. The in-studio meeting of guitar legends Lukather and Pierce is extremely noteworthy, considering they have both played on thousands of the most successful hit recordings of the past 30 years. Courtney B. Vance, star of the hit ABC TV series “Flash Forward”, is known worldwide for his roles in primetime television series such as “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and “ER”, along with starring roles in movies such as “Hamburger Hill”, “The Tuskegee Airmen”, and “Space Cowboys.” Vance was at SCS recording another set of commercials for the NFL Network (all of which have been recorded at SCS). SCS was also extremely proud to welcome drumming legend Vinnie Colaiuta to our Studio A. Vinnie is known all over the world for his work with such greats as Sting, Jeff Beck, Faith Hill and Megadeth. Vinnie was working with Juan Luis Guerra, a Dominican singer, songwriter and self-producer who has sold over 20 million records and has won multiple Grammys for his work, including five Latin Grammy awards in 2007, which tied him with renowned Latin artist Juanes for the record of most Latin Grammys won in one night. David Channing engineering and SCS's Nick Isley assisting. Gary Sinise is a frequent and welcome guest to SCS and has done numerous voiceover and ADR projects here. Sinise and others are big fans of Maria “Mama” Weir’s (mother of SCS owner Tom Weir) frequent home-cooking deliveries. This time he was doing voiceover for “WWII In HD”, the five-night mega-event that just recently premiered on the History Channel. Holly Knight has written songs for some of the biggest artists in rock music (e.g. Katy Perry, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi) and her songs have won three Grammys® for best vocal performance in rock. Holly was in SCS’s Studio A, working with engineer Luke Tozier to record drums with Matt Laug (Slash’s Snakepit, Alanis Morissette, Christina Aguilera) for artist Antonia Bennett (daughter of Tony Bennett). Another VIP during this all-star week was Luis Conte. He was in the studio to record percussion on “Shallow Zenith’s” debut album. Luis has done a number of sessions for various artists at SCS, and is always a welcome friend. Luis is famous for his work with such artists as Madonna, James Taylor and Phil Collins. Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Hollywood Undead, Guns N’ Roses, and so many more) was at SCS laying down some drum tracks for Shallow Zenith. Josh does a lot of his session work at the studio, and always ratchets up the excitement level when he is here. Paul Bushnell dropped by during the week to do some session work. Paul is one of the busiest session bassists around, known for his session work with Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, David Cook, Backstreet Boys and other artists too numerous to mention. SCS frequently works with the biggest names in entertainment, never taking their artistry, respect and friendship for granted. However, our week of hosting such a large number of VIP guests was extra special and we wanted to share this unique experience with our extended family. SCS has a busy holiday season ahead.
