Babs Martin, a male/female duo in Okmulgee, OK has been burning ground in the music this year. 2012 started with a bang as they hosted a sponsored Original Rock Revival in Tulsa. In February they headlined at a ten band festival in Memphis, TN. In April they released a new EP, Whiskey & Water and jump started the release tour by playing two venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. By June tracks from Whiskey & Water were being played on Chennai India radio. Now the Babs Martin duo takes to the road to embark on more first time shows. July 13th Babs Martin will stop back through Memphis to play the Daily Planet on their way to Nashville to play Betty’s Bar and Grill on July 14th. July 28th they are on their way to play Rusty’s of Austin. August 7th they are going to be featured live on CIUT FM in Toronto on HOWL program with host Nik Beat. This program will stream live on-line, and then on August 18th they play at the World Famous Tootsies in Nashville, TN.

Babs Martin redefines the idea of original music by offering an original style. Their Smoky Vox and Clawhammer Rock beats from the American heartland and leads the listener to the core of their music. Babs’ vocals are strong and distinct like Nico, Jim Morrison, Lou Reed, and Grace Slick. JA Martin, guitarist for Babs, plays a modified electric guitar in a traditional clawhammer banjo style from the Appalachian Mountains. He makes the bass notes warmly growl and the treble notes pleasantly chime. JA keeps the bass beat on a custom built electrified stomp box with a license plate cover like the old Blues players. It’s real music for real people who want to get back to their feel good music roots. Their driving beats and syncopated rhythms rock the dance floor and Babs’ words, vocals, and performance are hypnotic. Babs and JA say, “Our music isn’t for everyone, but it might be for you.”

They are the Bonnie and Clyde of music. Babs Martin is breaking rules of styles and crossing genres. They play venues from Rock to Punk to Indie/Alternative to Country. Keep an eye on Babs Martin’s show schedule at http://babsmartin.com for more details and to catch a show near you. If you can’t catch Babs at a venue, you can still hear her music and interview streaming live on CIUT FM. Visit babsmartin.com for links and information.
