Is Jolin Recording Again?
Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0ve-IQIV3U by Rebecca Lyons, The Tune Tribune - Covering ICM Week [Nashville, TN 10-17-12] Several anonymous reports have surfaced hinting at the possibility that retired LWM Records recording artist Johnny Jolin is making music again. The Country turned Gospel singer-songwriter declared an abrupt retirement in late August via social media citing spiritual convictions. However, if rumors hold water, apparently the 20+ year road warrior only needed 59 days to meet his spiritual obligations. With the 18th Annual ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards show taking place in Nashville this week two separate industry insiders were overheard during the Morning New Faces Concert Series in the Grande Ballroom at Nashville’s Millennium Maxwell House discussing Jolin being back in the studio. Even more, a producer who was willing to talk to me but requested to remain anonymous told me that “Johnny will always make music.” Then he smiled. Yet based on the hit Christian Country artist’s August 20th, 2012 retirement statement he claimed “I'm retiring from playing music live as Johnny Jolin or in any other form.” So either Jolin is crying wolf or there is a loophole in this declaration. The key word that jumps out at me is the word “live” which could hint to Jolin simply hitting the studio without plans to tour. What’s interesting is even Jolin’s contractual imprint, LWM Records, claims the artist is “absolutely retired” via a phone call with the label’s principal manager Adam Williams this evening. He explained “I keep in touch with Johnny on a regular basis and I would know if he was firing things back up. I think you are creating something out of nothing for the sake of gossip.” LWM Records co-founder and co-writer/producer of Jolin did not return our phone call in time for this release. However, while LWM Records denies Jolin is getting back into music, I find it interesting that Jolin announced his retirement while his current single “Valley of the Shadow” continues to climb the Christian Voice Top 100 which debuted at #81 and based on current radio reports is expected to make a big jump next month. The old adage ‘time will tell’ clearly applies here. As a music lover, I hope the rumors are true.
