TUFF AWARD WINNERS LAUNCH NEXT FILM WITH TORONTO SONGWRITER
Website: http://www.meghanmorrison.com Music: http://soundcloud.com/meghanmorrison/the-weather-girl-meghan As music media and conferences increasingly focus on collaboration of film, music and art, Meghan Morrison shines as a local example. The Toronto-based singer-songwriter will be performing her song "The Weather Girl", inspired by Tara Cooper's art installation series of the same name, as part of the film launch of "SUPERCELL: Weather Girl Goes Storm Chasing" that is being held at The Drake on November 13th at 7:30pm. Haircut was the film that won Tara Cooper and Terry O'Neill the "Best Local Film" Award at this year's Toronto Urban Film Festival, the second win for this team in almost as many years, as well as the prize of a launch party (courtesy of The Drake Hotel) for their newest film "SUPERCELL: Weather Girl Goes Storm Chasing". SUPERCELL takes a documentary style approach that builds off the ongoing multi-media "Weather Girl" series of art installations by Cooper that have been featured in numerous exhibitions across Toronto, including a 2010 Nuit Blanche placement at The Gladstone. It was there that Morrison was exposed to Cooper's work and felt compelled to write the song, which was released on her most recent album "[Lark] We Are All Born Naked" (2011). Duly impressed, the film makers requested that she and her band perform as part of the film's launch party, which bridges Cooper's "Weather Girl" art with the science and experience of storm chasing. The catered event will also include a screening of the new film and a short lecture about storm chasing. Doors open at 7:30pm. Suggested donation of $5. Morrison often draws inspiration for her music from other forms of art, citing Charles Dickens and Salvador Dali as major influences in her writing and compositional style. Lovingly quirky, this community building indie artist (born and raised on the Canadian East Coast) has been penning and performing in Toronto for 4 years, two and half of which have been spent developing her "Online Indie Jam" -an interactive grassroots web series that throws local songwriters together and encourages viewers at home to jam along and connect in real time with the featured guests.
