Shout Timber Release FREE Single Rich Man, 10th December 2012

Playing on two sides of an ever-existent and more than ever culturally relevant conundrum: rich and poor, happiness and unhappiness "All the money in the world no it can't buy love" Rich Man follows a character who has everything but is still unhappy, exploring the idea that joy derives from the people in our lives, and not from the all the stuff we own. Influenced by the makeshift, joyous vibe of a lot of African music (that sounds like it was recorded with one room mic), Shout Timber wanted Rich Man to draw from that musically but have a satirical lyrical edge that played on the 'first world problems' mindset. On the flip side, East India Trading Company is Shout Timber's take on travelling through India for the first time - the barrage on the senses: the colours, the people, the sounds, the smell. While the people there may be poor, they are quite the opposite of the Rich Man: happy, grateful, and genuine. Both tracks were produced by Tarek Musa (Jethro Fox, Eye Emma Jedi, Kankouran, Spring King) and mastered by the inimitable ear of Tim Debney at Fluid, capturing a potent balance of Alex and TJ's Indian roots and the Southern English class of Sam and Will. Drawing as much influence from their love of vintage American literature and cinema as they do the melodies and honest lyricism of The Smiths, harmonies of The Beatles and the afro-rhythms of Vampire Weekend, this London based four piece are fast establishing themselves as an original, clever yet wholly accessible new talent on the UK scene. Shout Timber built an early fan base with their first release last year "First Love EP", recorded only four months after the band formed, which garnered attention from the likes of Gary Crowley (BBC London 94.9) and Pete Donaldson (Absolute Radio), who labelled them an unsigned band to watch on his Sunday Night Show, and said of 'First Love': "a big fat 'yes' from me." Since then, the band has continued to receive support with radio play from the likes of Amazing Radio and This is Fake DIY.
