JaLon Takes Us Back To School

Music: http://www.mtv.com/artists/jalon-blacc/music/ Alot of today's hip hop is a pool of stripper anthems, blood, guts and goar. So when you're of age like me, it's hard to find GOOD music that's the hip hop of the late greats, but still have a modern twist. After a while you only sit back in hopes that its going to go back to the COMMON, the ROOTS, and GOODIE MOB, where music was about story telling, beat battling, and fun.
JaLon Blacc's approach to music in an eclectic and rhythmic with a splash of Southern suave. I found it very soothing and reminiscent of the days where music was about story telling and the essence of Hip Hop. From "P.S.A" 's detailed description of "no strings attached" relationships to "Keep it Going", a rendition of staying positive through tough discretion , "Johnny Bootlegger: Maconga, School of the Gifted Presents...." is a musical lesson of life. I enjoyed the electronic throbbing of "That Sho'Nuff" so much I went out and bought strobe lights in my living room. The music is a mixture of jazz, church claps, and soul...very different than most of the sounds that are out now.
From the beginning to the end of the album, you're going to dance, laugh, and cry. JaLon Blacc definitely brought hip hop back to where it belongs. Definitely the type of album that many critics like myself are going to enjoy...with a sip of lemon tea with a splash of rum of course.
