The Signature Music Series at Berklee presents an extraordinary season of jazz, R&B, soul, Celtic, and musical theater performances by a cross-section of Berklee students, faculty and alumni, and world-renowned, award-winning musicians. The spring 2013 half of the series features Terri Lyne Carrington’s Money Jungle (February 14), Great American Songbook: The Music of Quincy Jones (February 24), The Music of Bill Whelan (April 11), and Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical (April 25 and 26).

The Signature Music Series at Berklee takes place at the Berklee Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA. Purchase tickets at berkleebpc.com, by calling 617 747-2261, or at the Berklee Performance Center Box Office. The venue is wheelchair-accessible.

Thursday, February 14 – Terri Lyne Carrington’s Money Jungle

Admission: $8, $16 in advance, $12, $20 day of show, reserved seating, 8:15 p.m.

Renowned drummer and Berklee professor Terri Lyne Carrington presents her new CD, Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue. The album – to be released the week of the concert – is the follow-up to her Grammy Award-winning CD Mosaic. Money Jungle is a landmark trio recording by Duke Ellington with Charles Mingus and Max Roach. Carrington wrote all new arrangements of Ellington’s music for the album, which also includes two original compositions by Carrington and one by pianist Gerald Clayton. The concert will feature Carrington performing in trio and larger group settings with Berklee students and guest Clayton.

Sunday, February 24 – The Great American Songbook: The Music of Quincy Jones

Admission: $8, $16 in advance, $12, $20 day of show, reserved seating, 7:30 p.m.

Producer, arranger, conductor, film composer, and trumpeter Quincy Jones has been at the forefront of modern American music since his years as a student at Berklee in the 1950s. He has arranged for Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Sinatra; produced Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles; scored Oscar-winning films; and has received 27 Grammy Awards. Tonight, Berklee students and faculty pay tribute to “Q” with new arrangements of his enduring music in honor of his 80th birthday. Featuring special guests including Siedah Garrett.

Thursday, April 11 – The Music of Bill Whelan

Admission: $8, $16 in advance, $12, $20 day of show, reserved seating, 8:15 p.m.

Best known as the composer of Riverdance, Bill Whelan’s production and arranging credits include U2, Van Morrison, and Kate Bush as well as many orchestral, film, theater, and traditional music projects. Riverdance had its first performance in Dublin, Ireland, in 1995. Since then, it has played to millions of people worldwide, with both the album and video topping the charts around the world. At this concert, Grammy Award-winner Whelan will join a large Berklee student group in performing music from his broad repertoire.

Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26 – Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical

Admission: $8, $16 in advance, $12, $20 day of show reserved seating, 7:30 p.m.

Berklee’s Musical Theater Ensemble and the Musical Theater Orchestra present a fully-staged production of the Broadway musical Hair. Inspired by the hippie movement and the sexual revolution of the 1960s, Hair's songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam war movement and opened Broadway theater to rock music. Directed by Voice instructor Rene Pfister with musical director Peter Cokkinias, professor of Music Education.
