Shawn Michael Perry Recognized By Texas House Of Representatives

Each year, Sul Ross University Theater Department hosts a fundraiser for the Theater of The Big Bend. This year it was a murder mystery dinner theater and they brought in actor Shawn Michael Perry to participate. This was the second trip to West Texas for the accomplished actor, musician, and producer who has been nominated for nine Native American Indian Music Awards.
Shawn Michael Perry first came here to emcee the Thundering Hooves event in the early fall of 2012, celebrating the Horse and helping “Animal's Angels” raise public awareness regarding the inhumane and barbaric treatment of many horses bound for slaughter.
On December 12th the Texas House Of Representatives extended its most sincere appreciation to Perry for his service in music and arts to students in rural areas and Indian Reservations. This came through the Office of our State Representative and Congressman-elect Pete Gallego.
Perry has a passion for the education of the youth of America. In these times of severe budget cuts in schools, the first programs to suffer are in the arts. To combat the effects of these cuts, Shawn and his people have worked to produce creative ways to help less affluent schools fund music and
art programs.
In the coming year, Perry will involve himself with several musical projects and will work to bring his after school music program to schools and communities across Texas. While in West Texas, he traveled in South Brewster county for two photo shoots and in Jeff Davis County as well. Inspired by the
land and people of West Texas, he plans to become more a part of our community. Perry looks forward to working with Sul Ross on several events in 2013.
