DEEP ALPHA Garners Best New Age Album GRAMMY® Nomination For Steven Halpern, 'Founding Father' Of New Age Music

In December, DEEP ALPHA, Halpern's 2012 release, earned the sound healing pioneer his first GRAMMY® nomination for Best New Age Album. Additionally, DEEP ALPHA joined Halpern's previous album, DEEP THETA, on Billboard's Top Ten New Age charts, the historic first time that two "Brainwave Entrainment" albums have simultaneously held Top Ten slots; currently, DEEP THETA is enjoying its 12th week on the chart. "The new wave of New Age music is brainwave music," said Halpern from his studio in Marin County, California. "DEEP ALPHA combines new levels of artistic inspiration and mainstream accessibility with my ongoing interest in creating new music that benefits humanity and creates more (inner) peace on the planet. DEEP ALPHA: Brainwave Entrainment for Deep Meditation and Healing features the healing tones of the legendary Rhodes Mark 7 electric piano and subtle sustained harmonies. Behind the pleasant ambient music on DEEP ALPHA, Halpern's scientifically-researched Aural-Sync™ brainwave synchronization tones gently guide one's brain into a DEEP ALPHA state of 8 Hz (8 cycles per second), which naturally synchronizes with the fundamental harmonics of the earth itself. Simply by listening, one becomes naturally and almost immediately relaxed, rejuvenated and empowered for optimal healing and creativity. Halpern began his career playing trumpet and guitar in jazz-rock fusion and R&B bands. He studied with jazz greats Ron Carter and Archie Shepp at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and has jammed on stage with Pharoah Sanders, Frank Zappa, Larry Coryell, Rick Derringer, Jai Uttal, and world music icon Olatunji before focusing on the more peaceful music for which he's now known. For Halpern, space and silence were always integral parts of the music. Halpern's recording career began in 1975 when he founded his own independent label, now Inner Peace Music, to release the music that began coming through him in 1969 during meditations. That debut release, CHAKRA SUITE (formerly SPECTRUM SUITE) was recognized as "the most influential New Age album of all time" by a panel of industry leaders. Halpern has recorded and produced over 75 albums, many of which feature an all-star array of guest artists, including fellow GRAMMY-nominees Paul Horn, Paul McCandless, Michael Manring, and David Darling. He continues to set the gold standard in atmospheric 'soundscapes' that are exquisitely elegant, highly listenable and provide his listeners with an immediate experience of relaxation, well-being and inner peace. In fact, in 2005, Keyboard magazine recognized Halpern as "One of the most influential artists of the past 30 years....and the first --and definitive-- New Age keyboardist." As a concert pianist, since 1975, Halpern has opened for the Dalai Lama, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer and Andrew Weil at science and spirituality conferences, as well as dozens of solo concerts throughout the United States, Great Britain, Australia and Japan. Halpern has received many awards during his distinguished career, including Lifetime Achievement Awards from the World Massage Festival (2011), the International New Thought Association (2000), and the International New Age Music Conference (1989). He has been interviewed on countless television and radio programs, and his work has been covered in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, BBC and NPR. Halpern has presented his work as a keynote speaker and seminal leader at numerous scientific and integrative medicine conferences, including the 6th International Conference on Stress in Montreux, Switzerland and major holistic health expos in New York (Whole Life Expo), Los Angeles (Conscious Life expo), San Francisco (New Living Expo) and London (Festival of Body, Mind and Spirit) since 1977.
