IDA Hits 1 Million Works
The one million mark reached by IDA, the International Documentation on Audiovisual works (IDA) online database, is an important milestone attesting to the management system's rise as the most effective global tool for accessing and exchanging rights' information about audiovisual works. The system, owned by CISAC since 2005 and managed by SACD, contains data on movies, television programs, documentaries, series and short works (including alternate versions and adaptations in different languages and formats) inputted by 20 contributing audiovisual societies.
Nearly 50 societies, managing both the AV and musical repertoire, use IDA to facilitate royalty distributions, particularly for foreign uses of works by their domestic author members. In addition to containing a unique IDA code for each work and detailed information about each work's rights owners, the database is also compatible with ISAN (International Standard Audiovisual Number) and IPI (Interested Party Information).
IDA has been an essential tool for societies seeking to move away from the costly and time consuming practices of the past through increased automation and data accuracy. With a critical mass of works now available in the database and a major focus on quality of information, IDA has become the deepest source rights' information on AV works, improving the transparency, accuracy and speed of royalty distribution.
As a CISAC tool, IDA is part of CISAC'S Professional Rules and Binding Resolutions and, in order to be in compliance, all CISAC members who work with the AV repertoire are required to use it.
