JANIS IAN, GRAMMY NOMINATED IN BEST SPOKEN WORD ALBUM CATEGORY FOR HER AUDIO BOOK, “SOCIETY’S CHILD,” SIGNS WITH CURTIS BROWN FOR LITERARY REPRESENTATION
Website: http://www.janisian.com Famed singer-songwriter and author Janis Ian has signed with Ginger Clark of Curtis Brown, LTD for exclusive worldwide literary representation. Lemniscaat Publishing will release a children’s book based on Ian’s song “The Tiny Mouse” in fall of 2013. The book, which will be illustrated by the Schuberts, will include a CD of the song so children can sing along. “The Tiny Mouse” was originally commissioned by The Stables, a renowned venue in Milton Keynes, UK, which was started by Dame Cleo Laine and her husband Johnny Dankworth. It was one of 12 songs played as part of The Boat Project, as the Boat made its way down the Thames River. The Boat Project was one of the UK’s leading public art commissions to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. This unique 30’ sailing boat was crafted from wooden objects donated by the public and artists from all over the world. Each piece of wood had a special meaning or a moving, memorable or extraordinary story behind it, making the boat a living archive of the donors’ lives. For her song, Ian chose a carving of a tiny mouse donated by a woman who remembered her father having it in his study in the drawer of a jack in the box. Janis is a Grammy Award winning artist and just received her ninth Grammy nomination, this one in the Best Spoken Word category for the audio version (Audible.com) of her autobiography “Society’s Child” (Tarcher/Penguin). The title comes from the self-penned hit that topped the charts when she was only 15; it was also the first of her songs to be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Her fellow nominees in the category are a veritable Who’s Who – former President Bill Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and funny lady Ellen DeGeneres. Thirty science fiction writers used her songs as a backdrop for their imaginations for “The Stars Anthology” or “Stars: Original Stories Based on the Songs of Janis Ian.” Awards were numerous, including recognition of a story she wrote specifically for the anthology, “Second Person Unmasked.”
