A New Genre In EDM? 115DUB!
"115DUB" (EP) by ANTAE Available at http://soundcloud.com/okae/sets/115-dub/ *** "ANTAE comes on the scene with a fresh blend of dancehall, dub, trap and bass music. Great sonics with a night creeper vibe." - Artbeat Montreal *** Antae's debut EP is more than just a debut EP: it is the beginning of a new style, a blend of genres united as one at 115 bpm. Specifically reggae-themed, 115DUB takes the best elements of several new tendencies in electronic music and builds on them around creatively chopped samples from 1980s roots reggae records. The EP is largely inspired by the mystical vibrations of Jamaican Waterhouse acts such as Black Uhuru, Don Carlos, Yami Bolo and Junior Reid. One could spot the influence of genres like moombahton, footwork, trap and techno on the production techniques, however the overall sound remains unique and worthy of being recognized as its own genre. Culturally 115DUB serves the purpose of reuniting increasingly popular genres in EDM with their roots and it is mainly distributed as post-moombahton to DJs that play sets at 115 bpm. Moombahton as a child of reggaeton, grandchild of dancehall, meets its great-grandfather that is dub music, styled after legendary works by producers such as King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Over three decades come together in a new sound characterized by highly irregular kicks, extensive use of effects, intricate percussion and very heavy bass to feed the raving masses. Antae is a 21 year-old producer based in Montreal. Graphic artist by profession, music producer at heart, he has mostly appeared under the alias Sombrae as sound engineer behind multiple hip-hop albums such as "Latin Marksman 2 (R.O.A.M.)" by Nino Bless or "You Only Love Once" by Lysick to name a few. With the release of 115DUB, he begins on a new path as a solo producer. His style is noticeably influenced by Latin-American and Caribbean grooves and deep trance-inducing qualities effects of after hours techno music.
