Travels With Carlo
Website: http://www.carlobasilespanishguitarist.com/#!/home Chicago, IL - February 1, 2013. Guitarist and composer Carlo Basile plays music in the "Spanish style," but that is just a foundation for greater exploration. He has visited over 30 countries to perform, teach, study and collect materials for new work. His travels have inspired him to collaborate with musicians from Cuba, Senegal, India, Spain, Bali and other countries. He has taught guitar workshops in Chang Mai (Thailand), Cebu (Philippines), and Hanoi (Vietnam). After 12 years, Carlo has compiled some of his best collaborative experiences to tell "his story" with images and sound at a new Website designed by artist Travis Mitchell. After finishing a master's degree at NEIU in 2000, Carlo worked to blend elements of Spanish classical, flamenco, and "world music" to shape his own aesthetic. "On the last Las Guitarras de Espana release (2011's critically acclaimed Tantas Cosas), I feel like I was able to create my own approach to this material by composing rhythmic and melodic elements which borrow from many styles but hopefully sound integrated," says Basile. "It took 12 years of performance and study to feel somewhat comfortable in manipulating these materials and hopefully this is just the beginning." On March 21, 2013 (8PM CST), Basile will demonstrate his musical "melting pot of influences" when he performs with Las Guitarras de Espana at Chicago's City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph. This performance, with opening act Los Hombres Perdidos, will feature traditional and newly composed pieces with elements of Cuban, Indian and Spanish music as well as flamenco and Argentinean Tango dance. Guest artists will include Sara Ranganthan (Indian veena), Jorge Niedas (tango dancer), Wendy Clinard (flamenco dancer) and Colin Bunn (Tres guitar). Tickets go on sale February 1st. In addition, Basile has several more upcoming performances booked, including: Wednesday, February 13th, 2013 (7PM) at North Central College in Meiley Swallow (Thrust Theater), 31 S. Ellsworth Street Naperville, IL with Las Guitarras de Espana Thursday, February 14th, 2013 (12:15PM) at Chicago Cultural Center Lunch Break Series with Las Guitarras de Espana Thursday, February 14th, 2013 (7PM) at Uncommon Ground (Devon St, Chicago); solo guitar performance ####
