Music+Sound Awards Finalists Announced
Music+Sound Awards 2013 "John Lewis, McDonald’s, Hovis, Audi, The Guardian, Nike… just some of the finalists for The Music & Sound awards 2013 on February 21st 2013." With just a few weeks to go before this year’s UK Music & Sound awards at Troxy, the official list of finalists has been released. The shortlist of work selected by the panel of judges that includes: Gerry Moira (Director of Creativity at Euro RSCG), Bil Bungay (Founder of Beattie McGuinness Bungay) and Kim Papworth (Executive Creative Director at Wieden & Kennedy) has taken weeks of deliberation and now forms the industries’ official list of the best in music and sound design production in the UK from the past twelve months. This year the organisers will continue their tradition of throwing away the black ties and three course meals in favour of the more exciting ‘indoor music festival’ approach to an awards ceremony. Co-founder Nick Payne says ‘guests can expect an awards night unlike any other in the calendar with top artists and DJs performing, festival themed food and drink, fairground attractions and plenty of weird and wonderful entertainment’. The night’s entertainment will feature The Heavy, whose hits including 'How You Like Me Now?', 'What Makes A Good Man?' and 'Big Bad Wolf' have become staples of the sync world and have recently sound tracked Jaguar, Strongbow and Sony Playstation ads, as well as film trailers for Ted, Flight and 21 Jump Street. Aimed at professionals working in advertising, film, television (branding and programming) and gaming, the awards are open to anyone who is or has been involved in the creation, composition, sourcing, licensing, briefing and/or production of music and sound design for any visual media broadcast or released in the UK. The awards categories have been created to include the widest possible use of music and sound in visual media. They invite entries from television and cinema commercials, non-broadcast or viral advertising, branding and title sequence, feature films, television programmes and computer games. Nordoff Robbins is a music therapy charity, dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children and adults. They deliver over 50,000 music therapy sessions per year to people with a range of challenges such as autism, dementia, mental health problems, stroke, brain injury and life-threatening or terminal illnesses, such as cancer. All of these people have one uniting factor - music dramatically improves their quality of life. They carry out their work in their own music therapy centres and units, in schools, day centres, hospitals and care homes and they collaborate with a number of partners including Great Ormond Street Hospital. Music therapy is a specialist use of music to help people in many different ways - for some it has physical benefits, for others emotional or social ones.
