The Looking Premieres SONGS FOR A TRAVELER At Symphony Space February 25th

On Monday February 25th The Looking (aka Todd Carter) will present a live listening event for the upcoming album Songs for a Traveler at Symphony Space at 7:30pm. To perform this live rendition of the album, Carter will be joined by a band of New York luminaries whose collective credits include playing with everyone from Norah Jones and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, to Andrew Bird and DJ Logic. It only makes sense that Carter would have such a diverse and skilled backing band, as his own credits include singing the role of Siegmund from Wagner's Walkyrie at CAMI Hall and performing at Carnegie Hall, to playing New York's great rock clubs like Arlene's Grocery, Tonic, and The Slipper Room. Carter fuses together a wide scope of inspiration and genres, creating music that has been described as “intriguing....fascinating” (Collected Sounds), “eclectic and provocative,” (The Chronicle), and “like nobody else you have heard before....majestic” (IndieMusic.com).

For this special night Carter and his backing band featuring Dan Rieser, John Andrews, Gerald Menke, Chris Morrissey, Adam Kromelow, and Bill Finizio, will perform Songs For a Traveler in full. Songs For a Traveler, which will officially be released in Spring 2013, paints dreamy landscapes of American music from the Plains of the 19th century ("Sail Around") to songs from the 1950's ("Long Black Veil"). "I have been interested in American folk songs since the time I started playing music in Indiana,” Carter says. “It was the thought of mixing my love for 80's and 90's alt-pop with these old songs that resulted in Songs For a Traveler."

Opening the night will be Bill Finizio performing selections from his upcoming album. His work draws heavily from classical, American folk, and rock music.
