Universal Music Publishing Group Reaches Groundbreaking Agreement With Fullscreen

Bookmark and Share
Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has reached a landmark agreement with Fullscreen, one of the largest global YouTube networks, that ensures that UMPG's songwriters will be fairly compensated when their songs are used in Fullscreen's programming on YouTube, including in highly popular "cover" videos featuring Fullscreen talent performing hits originally made popular by others, as announced today by Zach Horowitz, Chairman and CEO, UMPG and George Strompolos, Founder and CEO, Fullscreen. The deal creates a streamlined, user-friendly music licensing process that will provide musicians in Fullscreen's premier musician network, "FAM" (Fullscreen Artist Mix), access to UMPG's vast catalog to produce and monetize a wide variety of video programming featuring UMPG songs.

"We're delighted to have reached a groundbreaking arrangement with Fullscreen that validates the important contribution of our songwriters to Fullscreen's music-based programming on YouTube, and enables Fullscreen to fully embrace the many revenue opportunities our songs help to create," said Zach Horowitz. "We are particularly pleased with the creation of the unique revenue-sharing arrangement for our songwriters in connection with wildly popular 'cover' videos that feature their songs."

"Our FAM artists are revolutionizing the way music is being created and enjoyed worldwide. We're focused on empowering the world's next generation of musicians, and our new partnership with Universal Music Publishing Group will be an enormous part of this mission," said George Strompolos.

Fullscreen, one of the most successful multi-channel YouTube networks, empowers content creators on YouTube to succeed by offering industry-leading technology tools, audience development and channel management expertise, exclusive sponsorship opportunities, marketing and cross-promotional support, production support and more. Fullscreen's "FAM" network currently has over 700 musicians on YouTube including Lindsey Stirling, Megan Nicole, Tyler Ward, Luke Conard, Alex Goot, Tiffany Alvord, Jason Chen, Joseph Vincent and Sam Tsui. Many of Fullscreen's most popular videos are performances of artists whose videos attract millions of views because of the popularity of the songs they sing-familiar hits that viewers know and love. These cover songs are key drivers of the traffic on Fullscreen and will now generate substantial advertising revenues that Fullscreen artists and UMPG's songwriters will share. The agreement encourages the use of UMPG across all Fullscreen programming, and maximizes Fullscreen's ability to monetize videos using UMPG's music content.
