Soulful Pop Artist Jon Jonsson Signs With Epic Records
MT Press is pleased to announce the signing of Jon Jonsson to Epic Records. Owned by Sony Music Entertainment, Epic Records has re-launched their entire brand in recent years, with L.A. Reid at the helm they’ve expanded their scope of artists and talents, and under the leadership of this music industry icon the label is becoming the one to watch when it comes to the discovery of bright new stars. Add Jon Jonsson to that list as he joins the likes of amazing artists and hit-makers that have joined the ranks of Epic elite. Joining artists like Sade, Future, Melanie Amaro, Paloma Faith, Cher Lloyd, and Karmin, he is set to become a part of a brand new era of music that is both legendary and enduring. Icelandic native Jon Jonsson was discovered by Bryant Reid. Reid is responsible for discovering the Grammy award winning artist Usher amongst others. Jonsson has been passionate about music since childhood and working effortlessly to secure his place among music’s top artists since then. After attending Boston University in the US, Jon’s focus shifted to writing and performing, and with his debut “Wait For Fate” in hand and a steadfast dedication to getting each and every song heard, he returned to his home-base of Iceland with the intention of growing his audience. Jonsson has joined the ranks of other emerging Icelandic artists, such as Of Monsters and Men, and Múm to name a few, that are gaining international attention and bringing Icelandic natives to the spotlight. Drawing comparisons to Gavin Degraw, John Mayer and even Stevie Wonder, Jon’s mix of top 40 pop with subtle blues undertones and R&B flavor as well as his boy-next-door good looks garnered him a huge fan base; securing four of his singles ("Lately," "Kiss in the Morning," "When You're Around" and "Sooner or Later") top 30 placements on Icelandic radio and sending his songs shooting up the Icelandic tunes charts straight to #1, above incredible artists like Adele and Amy Winehouse. His tracks "Wanna Get In" and "All, You, I" were also number #1 singles for Jonsson on the charts. Hot off the reaction to his singles, Jon was named “Best New Singer” at the 2012 Iceland FM957 People’s Choice Awards, and also received the award for "Best New Artist" in 2011 receiving an incredible 60% of the fan votes. Most recently, Jonsson's album "Wait For Fate" received a Gold Record, an excellent feat for an independent artist, showcasing his already dedicated group of fans that will only grow in the coming months.
