Timbre Expands Into Android Market With Free Local Music Discovery App
Timbre (http://timbreapp.com), the location-based music discovery app that helps music lovers find live bands, announces it has expanded into the Android market with a free app in the Google Play Store, currently offered in a beta version. With millions of songs, powered by Rdio (http://www.rdio.com), Android users will be able to locate local live music within a set radius of their location. At launch, the Timbre Android app is available in the United States, with plans to quickly expand to 15 additional countries. In the third quarter of 2012, smartphones running on the Android platform represented 75 percent of the 181.1 million that shipped, according to research from IDC. Furthermore, Nielsen reported the Android operating system is running on nearly 54% of smartphones in November 2012. The launch of Timbre's Android app greatly expands its potential reach and answers the top feature request from users. "We are excited to bring Timbre to the exploding Android market, not only to expand our potential user base, but also to delight our fans," says Timbre CEO Mark Kasdorf. "Far and away, an Android app has been our most requested enhancement." With this release, Android users will access existing iPhone features including the ability to find live concerts via current location or by user-defined city/town with an adjustable radius from one to 50 miles. When an Android user selects an artist, they are presented with the band's most popular songs powered by Rdio and a poster page listing upcoming concert details including venue, date and time. The user can purchase concert tickets, hear more songs by the artist or return to discovering other bands performing locally. Concert information can be shared via email, text message (SMS), Twitter, and Facebook. The Android announcement comes on the heels of Timbre's recent iOS expansion into 36 countries and 22 languages. In time for legendary music and technology conference South by Southwest, Timbre will also offer a curated list of all bands playing SXSW to enable attendees to find live shows on both Android and iOS.
