Subscribers To Omnifone's B2B Digital Music Platform Increase By 300%
The growth was driven by wide-scale customer acceptance of subscription music services as they become accustomed to the superior user experience of cloud-based music services, allowing them to listen to music anywhere, anytime. The growth was further amplified by expansion into new markets and the roll-out of those services across new devices. Omnifone powers global services by Sony Music Unlimited, Blackberry BBM Music and rara.com amongst others. Other key findings from the subscriber usage data on Omnifone's platform include: * 79 per cent of subscribers consumed digital music from devices in the home compared with 21 per cent on portable devices, re-enforcing the trend of subscription music services reaching mass market and moving towards becoming commonplace in the home * Of Android and iOS users, 76 per cent streamed music from Android-enabled devices compared to 24 per cent from iOS * Peak usage times in Europe was between 68pm while subscribers in most English-speaking territories including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and USA, streamed music mostly between 2-4pm, suggesting a younger demographic * Top ten countries by the amount of plays include US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Denmark * Across all services in each country, Christmas Day saw the highest number of streams Jeff Hughes, chief executive at Omnifone, said: "The data we are releasing today is further evidence that streaming is the fastest growing area of digital music and ready for mass market adoption. Next generation connectivity such as 4G and the latest internet-enabled home technology will drive growth further. We are continually investing in our cloud-based music platform to enable our customers to take advantage of that opportunity on a global scale." "It's clear from our platform usage data that the US receives the majority of traffic, but as we continue to secure innovative licensing deals to make our platform available in new markets, we expect other countries will increase their share of subscribers. We are beginning to see these trends already." "Looking ahead we envisage further bundling of music with other services which will really bring streaming to the mainstream. Music discovery, re-discovery and innovative curation and recommendation, combining recommendation engines with human experts, will enhance the user experience and accelerate demand."
