Adventurous Music, Smashing Ideas.
Website: http://www.feicksdevice.com/ Music: http://www.dropbox.com/s/b0monjrhcstsflc/Love%20anti-love.mp3 What is to be undone? Adventurous music, smashing ideas. "The war between being and nothingness is the underlying illness of the twentieth century" - Norman Mailer “The twentieth century sought to find meaning and offer answers. Instead it settled for contrived theories and over-zealous manifestos that inspired art movements and justified wars, leading humanity to the edge of self-induced decomposition. Now we have to ask, what can be done to undo all that?” – Feick's Device. Following the success of their September single, ‘Get over cute’, Sydney artcore quartet Feick’s Device are set to release their debut album, ‘What is to be Undone?’, Friday March 29, 2013. With a sound described as “The Pixies and The Bad Seeds get frantic in a Violent Femmes kind of way” (spurious), this album punches out raw, catchy art rock that wants to make you think. ‘What is to be undone?’, as it’s allusion to V.I. Lenin’s seminal work ‘What is to be done?’ suggests, is an album full of ideas, born of ideals, and cynical about where that heritage has gotten everyone. “We like to sing about ideas, and I like my songs to be the starting point of discussing a problem, rather than a blueprint for how it must be solved” says lead singer Michael Aiken. With songs about the exploitation of animals, the challenge to change the world or give up, why accountants can’t be trusted, capital punishment, parenthood, monogamous partnership and the manipulation of knowledge to keep people subjugated, this album is intense, personal and political. “It’s got punk, it’s got art songs, it’s even got a lullaby” says Michael. “We live by our art and see it as part of our lives, not some pastime that’s just for fun. It is fun, but it’s also a catharsis and an opportunity to reach out and engage with other thinking people.” Love/anti-love "I know about love. Love cannot be trusted." – Patrick Bateman, American Psycho (Brett Easton Ellis). ‘Love/anti-love’ is the next single from the album, following on from ‘Get over cute’ (September 2012). Based around grinding acoustic percussion and searing feedback, it’s full of angst and sneeringly aloof. “Have you ever watched two people walk down the street hand in hand and laughed at how one appears to be ‘kept’ by the other?” says Michael. “Ever thought the ideal of mutual love appeals, while the day to day reality most people live seems quite self-destructive? In ‘Love/Anti-love’, we’re running with that fundamental obsession people have of needing to be part of a pair, and how that need can serve to oppress the needy.” Masochist me, masochist me, he shrieks through the chorus, while the verses capture it even better: Have no other half / don’t want to be a part / of some mutual-need farce ‘Love/anti-love’ is out in limited digital release March 15 via youtube and bandcamp. The album ‘What is to be Undone?’ releases online and in good independent record stores March 29. Contact: Michael 0406 306 424 Michael@feicksdevice.com
