Academy Of Country Music Awards Increases ITunes Sales For Artists On The Show After Dominating TV Ratings Sunday Night

The 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony was a smash hit on Sunday night, positively impacting iTunes sales for many of its featured artists immediately following the program, while becoming the #1 most-watched show of the night. Broadcast nationwide on CBS from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the ACM Awards primetime special captured the attention of 15.38 million viewers, earning the show's largest audience in 15 years, and proved itself as having a significant effect on music sales the next day. Following the broadcast, 10 ACM Awards-associated artists appeared on the iTunes Top 20 country artists chart—including Entertainer of the Year winner Luke Bryan, who entered at #3—as well as Hunter Hayes, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, The Band Perry, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker. The day before the show, only three of the Top 20 country artists on iTunes were ACM Award nominees.

The show's success follows the establishment of new management at ACM Awards producer dick clark productions (dcp), which has also experienced ratings surges for its recent specials including Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve on ABC and The Golden Globe Awards on NBC. dcp has been led by CEO Allen Shapiro since October, and recently named industry veteran Michael Mahan as President of its parent company, DC Media.

"We're thrilled that the ACM Awards audience responded so positively to our broadcast—not only by watching the show itself, but also by purchasing music from so many of its featured artists," said Allen Shapiro, CEO of dick clark productions.

The 2013 ACM Awards also broke records online, with social media mentions hitting an all-time high and visits to ACM Awards content on CBS.com up more than 136% over last year, according to SocialGuide.
