Brooklyn Electronica Duo Harness the Power of the Web to Produce Their Open-Source, Crowd-funded Magnum Opus “Euphoria”

Los Angeles, CA- NYC’s electronic art-rock darlings, Dynasty Electric unveil their latest opus Euphoria, with help from fans and fellow musicians around the world. Euphoria serves as the follow up to 2012’s self-titled album and is their first release on their new label, NewSonic (Frenchkiss Label Group). Since their debut in 2004, the pair has been an underground sensation having toured around the world, obtaining features in Nylon, NME, The Village Voice, a music video on MTV, and songs featured in ads for Victoria’s Secret.

When it came time to create their latest album, Dynasty Electric decided on a radical new approach to production. Rather than seclude themselves for months in the studio, they decided to take an “open source” approach. The band recorded skeletal versions of the songs and made the individual vocal and instrumental parts available for electronic musicians to re-imagine in their own style. A global casting call for collaborators was sent through Indaba Music, the visionary social network for musicians, and the crowd-funding platform PledgeMusic, as well as Facebook and Twitter. The experiment resulted in hundreds of submissions from the space-pop, dub, and even classical genres making Euphoria a mind-altering, genre-defying journey around the world of sound.

In the spring of 2013, Dynasty Electric landed in Athens, Georgia after the end of an East Coast tour. In the indie-rock mecca, home of REM and the B-52s, they decided to film a video announcing plans for their next album and declared the launch of a crowd-funded campaign. “The concept originates from the worlds of electronic re-mixing and open source software,” says the group’s guitarist/saxophonist/producer Seth Misterka (Anthony Braxton, Hot Chip), a graduate of fabled music hotbed Wesleyan University. “One of the singles from our last album, ‘Eye Wide Open’, received over 500 remixes in just about every style on Indaba Music. We were so blown away by the experience that we thought, ‘wouldn’t it be cool to make a whole record this way?’”

With the new idea in hand, Jenny Electrik (lead singer and Theremin player) teamed up with a talented London-based producer, Nova Glam. The pair first met through Indaba Music, where Dynasty Electric hosted a remix contests for the album’s title track “Euphoria”, and its accompanying lead single, “Supersonic”. Nova Glam scored the winning mix of “Euphoria” and subsequently was chosen to help mix and master the rest of the album. Soon after, Misterka received an instrumental file from reggae singer P. Nyne, an up and coming artist from Kingston, Jamaica, whose track was given a spot on the album. P. Nyne shared the open-source concept album with friend and producer T.C. Campbell who sent Dynasty Electric an instrumental he was working on, originally titled “Rock-Pop Riddim” as his submission for the contest. Dynasty Electric enjoyed it so much that they decided to turn it into the song, “Floating Around The Sun,” an acoustic guitar driven psychedelic pop gem.

Euphoria lead single is a head-turning remix of “Supersonic Love” from Paris’ Julien Brasart, a virtuosic guitarist and the Indaba Music grand-prize winner. The track is a tour-de-force of guitar wizardry buzzing with a tight, DFA-style production and groove. The album’s second track, “Rockitship” is co-produced with Outernationale of Scotland, who the band met through PledgeMusic. The song is a sci-fi fantasy story about a sonic powered rocket ship and contains an infectious hook, percolating synths, and an under-current of 90’s alt-rock. Another song, “Introduction to Euphoria” is a delightfully glitchy dreamscape produced by Japanese remixer Politru. It serves as an excellent transition to Nova Glam’s version of “Euphoria”. The track is a mini-trip within the album, with nods to EDM, rock, jazz, and global music, which lead to a massive chorus that pulsates with a dubby bass line that underscores the vocal hook. Later on the album, Canadian composer Steve Sauder transforms “Euphoria” into an uplifting orchestral experience. Designed by Canadian-Iranian artist, Renuvo, the album artwork completes the idealistic package Dynasty Electric had aimed for.

While Dynasty Electric continues to cement their place in the electronica scene, fans are lining up by the dozens to get to the nearest dance floor. Check out the new album Euphoria on iTunes. Be sure to keep up with the Brooklyn duo by visiting: www.DynastyElectric.net.
