Institute Celebrates Student Successes At The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank

On Thursday 28th November 2013, the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance held its annual Graduation ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank.

The Institute Graduation event congratulates and celebrates the successes of students who have completed their studies in each of the school‘s courses.

The Southbank Centre is one of the largest arts centres in the world, in the midst of one of London’s most vibrant cultural quarters on the South Bank of the Thames. With more than 1,000 musicians and artists performing at Southbank Centre each year, it was the perfect setting for the Institute to celebrate the success of its graduating students.

The afternoon included student performances, the presentation of Institute certificates and an inspiring keynote Speech from the founder of Infectious Records, Korda Marshall. Students who had been selected as showing particularly high achievement and improvement throughout their studies received special silver, gold and platinum awards.

Graduating BMus students, Ruta Smailyte and Elize Kellman entertained guests as they waited to be seated in the Hall, with songwriting students Ana Saffer and Mairead Furlong (winner of the Shure Songwriting Award 2012) providing an interlude to the award presentations. The ceremony ended with a performance from VICE Collective, a band comprising Foundation Degree Creative Musicianship and BMus students, which the BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship Programme leader Atar Shafighian described as a “perfect example of student collaboration across programmes”.

A drinks reception completed the celebrations with performances from the Institute’s choir L.I.V.E (London Institute Vocal Ensemble) and orchestra; We are Children (We Make Sound).

Institute MD, Paul Kirkham commented: “Once again, we are both proud and delighted to have graduated another group of outstanding Institute students. At this time it is important to both look back on the achievements they have made and forward to the challenges ahead. Institute graduates are now well placed to continue to shape their own futures and the future of the music industry.’
