MUSIC HEALS DONATED $100,000 TO MUSIC THERAPY IN 2013
A Variety of Programs and Areas of Care Benefited
Vancouver, BC, January 6th, 2014 – Music Heals is proud to announce that it donated a total of $100,000 to music therapy programs in Canada in 2013.
In what was essentially their first full year of operations, Music Heals received tremendous financial support from businesses, foundations, events, and the general public. Donations were made towards additional music therapy services for seniors, children, bereavement support, AIDS & HIV care, palliative care, and more.
Music Heals works to increase access to music therapy by funding additional therapy hours for accredited music therapists in various intuitions and serving many areas of care. Music Heals only funds existing programs, so as to provide incentive for facilities to prioritize music therapy, which is not funded by the government.
Last year cheques were written to BC Children’s Hospital, Camp Kerry, Delta Hospice, The Dr. Peter Centre, Langley Lodge, and other programs nationally via the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund.
This donation total caps an incredible year, which also saw recognition in many forms. Music Heals was nominated for two Small Business BC Awards, and placed in the Top 10 for “Best Concept” (winners will be announced February 27th). Apple approved the use of their trademark “iPod” for use with the iPod Pharmacy, Aeroplan granted a “Beyond Miles” donation account, and Google awarded at $10,000/month grant for AdWords advertising. In addition, the CRTC recognized Music Heals as an eligible recipient of Canadian Content Development funding.
Satellite offices for the iPod Pharmacy were opened in Victoria and Calgary, and plans are in place for further expansion to Regina, Winnipeg and Halifax. The Music Heals blog was also launched, with international contributors to this worldwide resource for music therapists. The bar for 2014 is being set even higher.
