Los Angeles based singer, songwriter Steve Cooke releases his rendition of the classic Sam Cooke hit, worldwide on January 30th.

50 years ago today (30th January, 1964), the 'Father of Soul' Sam Cooke made history with his passionate RCA studio recording of his song A Change Is Gonna Come in Los Angeles.

Steve Cooke performs A Change Is Gonna Come to also honor Sam Cooke’s life in this 50th anniversary year of his passing in 1964. He was only 33 years old.

Steve Cooke’s early introduction to blues, soul and gospel came from a serendipitous backstage meeting with blues icon Sonny Terry at a music festival.

“Sonny asked me to 'be his eyes' - I explained the surroundings and we talked about Georgia, Tennessee and Clarksdale Mississippi [where Sam Cooke was from]. I was totally smitten watching from the wings - when he and Brownie McGhee played Sam Cooke’s song Bring It On Home To Me, it changed my life forever”, said Steve.

Highly aclaimed producer Kevin Dorsey produced the all star band at Paramount studios in Los Angeles. The lineup features Sam Sims (Michael Jackson) on bass, Tommy Organ (Michael Jackson) & Ricky Rouse (Bobby Womack) on guitars, Michael White (Whitney Houston) on drums and Daniel Moore (Jennifer Hudson) on keys.

Steve sang the vocal in one complete take at Melrose Mastering with engineer David Williams and executive producer Kris Lamans (The Platters).

“I have so much to thank these guys for and I'm truly humbled and blessed to be a part of this project”, said Steve.

Steve Cooke’s soulful rendition of the song also reflects his own personal experience in struggle and survival.

He recorded the song after a life changing near tragedy, which inspired him and his wife Sandra to found a new charity ”Music Healing Hearts,” supporting heart patients and research.
