Frank & Camille's Introduces Fun, Web-Based Program, Piano Marvel, To Piano Students Across Long Island

Bookmark and Share
Frank & Camille’s, a renowned Long Island piano dealership and teaching facility for more than 37 years, recently opened the doors of its Melville showroom to piano students across Long Island. They engaged in an informative tutorial on Piano Marvel, the latest intuitive and interactive teaching tool that enables students to evolve into well-trained pianists four-to-five times faster than traditional teaching methods. Sean Slade, co-creator of Piano Marvel who also has a degree in piano performance and pedagogy, led the seminar, allowing students to experience Piano Marvel’s progressive teaching capabilities first-hand.

Prior to the event, teachers from neighboring towns were invited to their own private seminar led by Slade and Camille Scheidemann, professional musician and owner of Frank & Camille’s. At the event, Slade and esteemed Long Island piano teacher Pat King, who is an advocate for Piano Marvel, eased concerns among music educators by emphasizing that Piano Marvel is not a substitute for an instructor; it rather breaks down the barrier between the instructor and student by uniting the two through a fun, interactive web-based program.

“Nothing will ever replace the piano teacher. Students still need an instructor beside them to teach the traditional piano lessons and to add dynamics and emotion to their performances. This program simply helps students reinforce what they’re already learning in the classroom or in their private lessons, and the technology lures them into practicing more,” says Judy Hanley, Music Director for Frank & Camille’s Melville location. “Typically, my students spend more time during the week playing Angry Birds or Candy Crush. This is the Candy Crush for piano.”

Designed by piano teachers, Piano Marvel is the ultimate piano learning system. The hands-on software program can be hooked up to most digital pianos and portable keyboards as well as any acoustic piano with the addition of a QRS PNOscan MIDI strip, which Frank & Camille’s exclusively carries. With more than 1,200 exercises and 1,000 performance pieces, Piano Marvel includes a comprehensive library with lessons for all ability levels. Instantaneous feedback allows students to accurately assess their progress, and the program allows users to move at their own pace. Video tutorials consist of lessons, on-hand positions, finger placement, music reading skills and more.

“The students loved experimenting with Piano Marvel, because it quickly got them into that necessary mindset in which learning music is fun and engaging,” says Slade. “The computer program constantly stimulates students by challenging their skills, providing instant feedback and awarding praise when earned. In many ways, Piano Marvel is the bond, syncing the teacher, piano and student.”

“It was amazing for me to witness first-hand the benefits that stem from this program,” says Scheidemann. “Each time the student was given a piece to practice, their first attempts were always less than perfect. However, within ten minutes of using Piano Marvel, they all began to play the pieces perfectly!”

Lori Clutter, regional account manager for QRS Music Technologies, Inc. and Young Chang America, also spoke at Friday’s event to demonstrate the QRS PNOscan Record Strip and how it can easily turn any acoustic piano into a MIDI instrument.

Frank & Camille’s School of Music will be offering Piano Marvel in its studio, along with traditional piano instruction, NYSSMA preparation, as well as lessons for more advanced students who wish to specialize in a wide variety of music genres, including classical, jazz, blues, country and rock. Students can choose to participate in individual or group classes.
