Bookmark and Share

Formosa Group, the talent-based post-production sound editorial company serving film and interactive clients, has formed Formosa Music Group to provide music editorial services for feature films and television, it was announced today by Robert C. Rosenthal, President and Chief Operating Officer.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"

The creative leaders of Formosa Music Group are veteran Music Editors Bill Abbott and Kenneth Karman. With a career spanning over 30 years, Karman has helped craft the music on more than 150 movies including "The Lone Ranger," "Flight," "Rango," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," "Milk," "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "Good Will Hunting," "Forrest Gump," "This Is Spinal Tap," and all three "Back to the Future" films. With a career spanning over 20 years, Abbott helped craft the music on more than 75 movies including "Oz the Great and Powerful," "Alice in Wonderland," "Wanted," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Spiderman 2," "Heat," and "In the Name of the Father."

Leigh Kotkin is Director of Music Editorial Services and runs the new division that works with studios, directors, producers, composers, picture editors and music supervisors to construct temp tracks, cut songs, and craft the score for the final sound mix. He has more than 15 years of experience in his field. More than 20 music editors and assistants have joined the new division and are currently based at the Pacific Design Center.

"We are pleased to announce a new division offering the best possible music editorial services to the entertainment industry," said Bob Rosenthal. "The fact that Formosa Group has grown so quickly prior to reaching our first-year anniversary demonstrates that our commitment to our artists and to all aspects of our services is succeeding."

"We are very excited about making a fresh start with the Formosa Music Group," said Abbott and Karman. "This division has assembled a team of the most talented, innovative and experienced music editors in Hollywood. We hope FMG will be the obvious first choice for studios, filmmakers and composers looking for collaborators who are as creative as they are skilled in their craft."

Some of Formosa Music Group's current projects include "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (Paramount), "Draft Day" (Lionsgate), "Echo" (Relativity Media), "Godzilla" (Warner Bros.), "Mad Max: Fury Road" (Warner Bros.), "Muppets Most Wanted" (Disney), and "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" (DreamWorks Animation).

"My colleagues in Formosa Music Group and I are delighted to join Hollywood's finest post-production sound company," said Leigh Kotkin. "We could not be more impressed by the Formosa Group team including Bob Rosenthal, the four supportive owners, and the incredible staff. As a result of this move, we can look forward to a great future together."

Formosa Group previously contracted with 11 entertainment sound industry veterans, who have more than 800 movie credits among them. A talent-based post-production sound company serving film and interactive clients, Formosa Group was formed in 2013 to provide an environment where sound artists can be respected and heard, while working within a state-of-the-art entity that supports the best creative setting possible for artists. Formosa Group is based at The Lot, an 11-acre studio in West Hollywood with a rich history. The Lot was originally founded in 1918, and has been the United Artists Studio, Samuel Goldwyn Studios and Warner Hollywood Studios. In addition, Formosa Group has a second West Hollywood facility ("Formosa 66") and a west side facility ("Formosa West").
