Chad Richardson Joins SOCAN To Help Members Shine In Los Angeles

Bookmark and Share

SOCAN's nearly-700 members working in California now have Chad Richardson in their corner to help promote and advance their music, SOCAN - the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada - announced today.

As a native of Newfoundland and accomplished songwriter and composer himself, Richardson joins SOCAN as General Manager, Los Angeles Division, bringing more than 20 years of progressive experience in the television, stage and music industries.

Most recently, he was Creative Director with ole, Los Angeles, where he played an instrumental role in signing Steven Tyler and Timbaland. Over the years he has worked closely with SOCAN members Jim Vallance, Alan Frew, Dean Brody, Shiloh, The Novaks, film and TV composer Craig McConnell, and others. He has a wealth of experience introducing songs to music supervisors, placement in television and video, song critiquing and guidance, and sourcing co-writing and industry opportunities.

"Being in a position where I can use my experience and contacts to help SOCAN songwriters, publishers and film and TV composers in the very competitive environment of Los Angeles is a challenge I look forward to," said Richardson. "SOCAN members have the talent; they just need the right opportunities to showcase their stuff. My goal is to present them with opportunities to be heard and succeed in L.A. I'm thrilled to be joining SOCAN."

Richardson also played a leading role in organizing seven songwriting camps in various locations, including Sweden, Greece, Virginia Beach and, most recently, Los Angeles, where he co-presented a camp with Roc Nation for Rihanna. The song camps have proven to be very successful and produced tracks such as "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" for Carly Rae Jepsen, "All Her Bones" by Kes, and "Bounce," 2013 song of the year in Korea by Cho Yong Pil.

"Adding Chad Richardson to the SOCAN Membership team is a huge asset to SOCAN and our members," said Eric Baptiste, chief executive officer at SOCAN. "With all of Chad's artist and repertoire success and creative skills, music connections, in-depth knowledge of music publishing and film and TV, and fluency in both English and French, SOCAN members' interests are well served in L.A. and California."

Richardson succeeds Bob Hunka, who served SOCAN from 2005 through 2013. SOCAN thanks Bob for his many years of service and contributions to its members' success.
