Institute Students Tour The Netherlands

On 13th January 2014, a student band from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (London) travelled over to The Netherlands for a tour organised in a partnership between the Institute, Fonty’s Rockacademie (Tilburg) and Most Rated.

Remote View, a four piece that describes their style as a fusion of pop, funk and blues, were awarded the opportunity after playing at a Most Rated/Institute gig with another Institute act (Plastic Barricades) and a Rockacademie band (A Name For The Moon), who were in the UK on a similar exchange arranged by the two organisations.

The official four day tour included co-writing and recording sessions with students from Rockacademie, a gig at Cul de Sac in Tilburg with A Name For The Moon and Shoulders of Giants from the Dutch school, and a second gig at Altersonic in Gronigen, as part of the city’s annual Music Industry Festival and Conference, Eurosonic. Playing in the city during such a festival meant that the band had the opportunity to network and showcase their work with a number of industry executives. After the official tour, the students went on to Amsterdam where they had arranged a jam night at their hostel.

This was the first time the Institute has arranged such an exchange giving students the opportunity to travel out of the UK and experience producing a track with other students and playing gigs in another country.
The feedback from all parties was very positive with the students finding the experience extremely valuable. Guitarist, Daniel Lau commented: "This trip has been a great privilege for us to be a part of. We've come away from this tour gaining invaluable experience about the organisation of a band tour and are very thankful for the opportunity given to us by the Institute". Bassist, Matt Winter (also a former Institute Scholarship Winner) added that “the tour gave me a glimpse of what I've always wanted from music - to travel and meet new people whilst sharing my music and hearing others’.
Due to its success, the Institute now intends to plan similar exclusive opportunities for more students with its other International partner schools.
