Album Release: Allan Dawson - Start Again
Independent Artist/Producer Allan Dawson is Releasing his fourth all-original rock album, titled Start Again to iTunes and all major online music stores on 20th March 2014, via AWAL (other artists: Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Beck and Radiohead). Start Again is a straight ahead rock album that aims to get back to the core definition of what an album project is supposed to represent. It is the most definitive work by this artist to date and includes a well balanced setlist of material, from engaging upbeat hooks to mid-tempo melodic anthems, which amply demonstrate his well honed multi-instrumental abilities, particularly as a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and producer.
Allan Dawson who is originally from Colwyn Bay, North Wales now lives on the outskirts of London. He has been performing since his early teens, having started out as a lead guitarist in various rock bands before eventually becoming a solo artist. His early development as a songwriter and passion for recording also led to him taking on an
assistant job at a recording studio during his teens, equipping him as a sound engineer and producer by his early twenties. His varied abilities in the music sphere opened up doors for him and he went on work on live albums for
numerous established artists such as Shed7, Hawkwind, Carmel and Berlinda Carlisle, helping him to complete the skillset required to become a formidable Artist Producer.
The Start Again album reflects all of that and more, tackling some of the grittier aspects of modern life and presenting them lyrically in a thought provoking if sometimes indirect fashion. One of the highlights of the album is the track
“Why Did You Never Believe Me?”, co-produced by Martin Wilding (other credits: The Alarm, Roger Taylor, James, Jesus Jones and Mansun). This song was previously picked up by the Welsh Music Foundation for inclusion on a various artists compilation CD showcasing the best music from Wales, alongside works by artists such as Cerys Matthews (Catatonia) and The Guns. Other tracks include “Give Me a Reason” which earned Allan critical acclaim from top music industry professionals at a British Academy of Songwriters Composers and Authors songwriting workshop. The twelve track album delivers instantly memorable moments throughout, with highly original composition choices and chord progressions, without being too shy to challenge the commercially accepted formulaic rules of arrangement.
