Bookmark and Share

For its lucky seventh trip to South by Southwest Music Conference, NPR Music is bringing to the stage and personal screens everywhere its signature opening-night showcase with another genre blending line-up of stand-out artists: Damon Albarn, St. Vincent, Kelis, and Perfect Pussy. The official showcase happens live at Stubb's on Wednesday, March 12, and kicks off NPR Music's marathon coverage of SXSW 2014, available to Austin-minded audiences at npr.org/music, in NPR Music apps and from public radio station across the country.

Wednesday, March 12
Blur and Gorillaz co-founder and all around musical adventurer Damon Albarn closes the evening, playing songs from his forthcoming solo debut Everyday Robots, as well as selections from his iconic catalogue. The showcase also offers one of the first opportunities to hear St. Vincent perform songs from her new self-titled album, which fans can also hear in full now as an NPR Music First Listen. Genre-defying singer Kelis debuts soulful new tunes from her upcoming album Food in her first U.S. performance since 2010 - and the first-ever U.S. show with her 12-person band. Up-and-coming punk rockers Perfect Pussy open.

NPR Music's Alt.Latino also heads to Austin for SXSW and to participate in the inaugural year of SXAmericas, a series of events geared to connect U.S. Latino and Latin American technology, music, and film industry thought leaders. Show hosts Jasmine Garsd and Felix Contreras will DJ the SXAmericas Opening Night Mixer at Brush Square Park on Tuesday, March 11, and will host an intimate chat with French-Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux at the SXSW Convention Center on Thursday, March 13.

Live audio and video streams, recordings, reports, photo galleries and podcasts straight from Austin will be available at npr.org/sxsw. All Songs Considered co-hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton, NPR Music critic Ann Powers and writer/editor Stephen Thompson will offer the latest news, sights and collective musings from the festival at npr.org/music, as well as via @allsongs, @altlatino, @nprmusic and the NPR Music Instagram. Once again, the All Songs Considered podcast will broadcast live from the festival, providing daily wrap-ups and post-fest debriefs; subscribe now.

Joining NPR Music in SXSW revelry are six public radio station partners - KUT Austin, WFUV New York, WXPN Philadelphia, KCRW Los Angeles, KEXP Seattle and The Current from Minnesota Public Radio. Throughout the week, find artist interviews, reports and live performance sessions at npr.org/sxsw and at the stations' websites.

NPR Music collaborates with NPR's newsmagazines, public radio Member stations and the passionate NPR community to celebrate great music in every genre. Visit at NPR.org/music and via NPR Music mobile apps for more live in concert videos, as well as extensive archives of exclusive performances, interviews and reviews of artists from all genres.
