IAB China Launches In Beijing, Joining IAB Global Network To Advance Cooperation Between Digital Companies In China And From Around The World

With the number of web users in China reaching a staggering 618 million, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has formally licensed the Interactive Internet Advertising Committee of China (IIACC) to launch IAB China, furthering its longstanding relationship with Chinese internet companies and the IIACC Secretary General, Chen Yong, a veteran of the Chinese internet marketplace. This new organization will become an important new member of the global IAB network, leveraging the IAB brand and best practices to advance the industry's interests in a critical marketplace.

Under Chen's leadership, IAB China will represent major digital Chinese publishers, brand marketers, and agencies, as well as internet multinationals with offices in China. The new organization will learn from IAB experiences and leverage its technical standards such as V-Suite and MRAID, operating best practices, and creative guidelines. In addition, IAB China will work jointly with IAB worldwide management to bring IAB's highly regarded thought leadership events to the People's Republic, as well as its training and certification programs designed to prepare the workforce to thrive in the internet economy.

China is home to the world's largest internet audience, making it a high priority for stakeholders across the interactive ecosystem. With IAB China, our global network grows infinitely more robust and promises greater value to the worldwide digital arena."

"After working with the IAB for years on several initiatives, I am thrilled that China is able to join in the IAB global network. We have a lot of work to do, and by joining forces with the IABs around the world, we will be able to exponentially expand the impact of the digital ad industry in China and on an international scale."

"It is exciting to build on the trust and bond that IAB has already established with the IIACC which is under Chen Yong's leadership," said David Doty, Executive Vice President and CMO, IAB, who also heads the organization's international efforts and partnerships. "With the launch of IAB China, a wealth of knowledge and connections will be brought to the table for members in the U.S. and abroad. This new agreement sets the foundation for other joint cooperation between us and for stronger ties between Chinese internet businesses and those across the globe, providing increased access in all directions."

IIACC has worked with the IAB on several fronts for many years, including the release of an unprecedented joint study, "Mobile's Role in a Consumer's Media Day in the United States and in China: The Smartphone as an Extension of the Self and an Extension into the World" in August 2013.

IAB China becomes the 42nd licensed IAB in the world. Under licenses from the IAB, which was founded in New York in 1996 and remains headquartered there, there are already 40 national IABs, on all the world's continents except Antarctica, and one regional, in Europe. In the Asia-Pacific region, IABs have been established in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam. IABs have been formed in North America, South America, Africa, and Europe. They are all independently owned and operated, functioning under bylaws consonant with local market needs, with transparent governance and finances, to further the best interests of the industry they serve. IAB Europe is the only regional representative body in the network, created to advance the needs of that continent's 25 national IABs and their hundreds of corporate members.

This news was released simultaneously at the seventh IAB Annual Leadership Meeting "Marketing 2020: The Digital Agenda," held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California, as well as in Beijing.
