In 1974 the band Yesterday & Today began their long career. Their name was taken from the Beatles album "Yesterday & Today". It was later shortened to Y & T. They have had record contracts with London, A & M, Geffen Records and more. They've sold more than 4,000,000 records worldwide to date. The band consists of Dave Meniketti lead guitar, lead vocals, John Nymann rhythm guitar, backing vocals, Mike Vanderhule drums, percussion, backing vocals and Brad Lang bass guitar, backing vocals. Brad Lang came in on bass to replace original bassist Phil Kennemore, who died at the age of 57 after a short battle with lung cancer in 2011. Y & T has released 12 studio albums, 5 live albums and there are a few compilation and best of albums released also.
Today, the band is signed with Frontier Records. 2014 marks the band's 40th anniversary. January 2014 started the bands 40th anniversary world tour which goes all the way into October. They stop in Cleveland on Thursday, April 17th at the Cleveland Agora located at 5000 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland.
Motley Crue, Ratt and Metallica all say they were influenced by the hard working band Y & T. Dave Meniketti has been asked to join Ozzie Osbourne and Whitesnake but due to his commitment to Y & T had to turn them down. Many of the biggest acts of the '80s became popular opening for headliners Y & T. Their newest album "Facemelter" , with the high-octane riffing and passionate bluesy voice of Dave Meniketti, makes this latest effort one of the best albums ever released by these guys. The musical mixture on this album is dynamic but eclectic. Some phenomenal hard rock that easily enters heavy metal territory too. Great writing and great musicianship takes this band into the future.
So, if you've got Thursday, April 17th free, do yourself a favor and get to the Agora to see what a great band Y & T really is. Opening for Y & T on this particular evening is The Rick Ray Band which consists of Harvey Phillips - drums, Wally Spisak - bass, Rick Schultz - reeds, DC - lead vocals and harmonica, Rick Ray - guitar.
