ELECTRONIC POP BMBSHL RELEASES DEBUT CD
For Immediate Release: March 27, 2014; With the recent release of her music video “Recover,” Edmonton artist BMBSHL, is set to debut her first full length album on April 15, 2014. Bringing in a mixture of distorted synths, hip hop beats, and classic soul, the record began as an experiment to see how far she could take her skills as a writer and producer in a short period of time.
BMBSHL began producing her own music electronically in the summer of 2012 and a year later found herself deep in her craft wanting to share her work with others. She was inspired to make a solo album after spending time in the studio writing and co-producing songs with artists Jay Sparrow and Brad Smith. They challenged her to write a song every week for the remainder of summer in 2013 and BMBSHL submerged herself in her own creativity.
“I spent the entire summer in my bedroom-turned-studio, staring into my laptop until I got the sounds I wanted. That’s probably why so much of this record is introspective; I wrote most of it alone in my basement, armed only with my imagination and my new KRK Rokit 6’s“ recalls BMBSHL.
The album contains collaborations with Toronto producer Mike Schlosser and musician Fred Brenton, who added their own creative vision in the tracks “Recover” and “Stories.” Songs “Pray Enough” and “Calling” hold important and powerful messages for BMBSHL as they were written from the pain and grief of the passing of Edmonton musician and friend Kelly Callin (The Soulicitors). Callin's wife, Tarah, was able to listen to “Calling” after its completion, and BMBSHL hopes that the song might help her and those affected by the tragedy as it puts their grief into words.
"Kelly was very well loved and well respected amongst my friends and band mates," says BMBSHL, " and it was a huge blow to our community to lose him so early in his life. I guess I’ll suffice it to say that it was a painful song to write, and a painful song to sing, but when I thought of what his wife must be going through, my heart ached.”
BMBSHL’s CD has been released to campus and CBC radio and her Canadian tour will kick off in her hometown of Edmonton on April 24th 2014.
