Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York

Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York is set to kick off May 1 and go through May 31. The month-long series of live performances, club nights, lectures, art installations and more will feature innovative artists, unique venues and signature show concepts exploring today's musical landscape while paying homage to its history. Just Blaze, Nelson George, Caroline Polachek (Chairlift), Dâm-Funk, Torn Hawk, Electro Guzzi, Nguzunguzu and Nick Hook are a few of the festival's recent additions set to join previously announced performing artists D'Angelo, Panda Bear, Hudson Mohawke, David Byrne, Tim Hecker, Napalm Death, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), François K, Robert Henke, The Haxan Cloak, Gunplay & Wolf Eyes, among others.

The diverse musical showcase, which will become an annual New York City festival, is a legacy to the critically acclaimed Red Bull Music Academy that took place in New York in 2013. Throughout the month of May, the 15 public events will take place at locations as diverse as New York itself - from traditional music venues to cultural institutions to a restaurant-turned-nightclub to literally the streets of NYC.

Just Blaze, one of the architects of Roc-A-Fella's classic NYC hip hop sound and countless hits from Jay-Z to Rihanna to Eminem, will DJ as part of The Four Corners of the Clash on May 9. He'll reunite with the other crews from New York's 2013 Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash--Trouble & Bass, Que Bajo, and Federation Sound's Max Glazer and Kenny Meez--to celebrate the event's first anniversary.

Author, filmmaker and critic Nelson George will moderate A Conversation With D'Angelo on May 21. The candid talk between the elusive R&B singer and his trusted friend will give fans an opportunity to hear about D'Angelo's creative approach, and recall the moments that really mattered to him throughout his career. George interviewed the singer for his documentary Finding The Funk, which aired on VH1 in February, and most recently released the widely praised book 'The Hippest Trip in America: Soul Train and the Evolution of Culture & Style.'

Caroline Polachek is set to DJ at the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair on May 10, along with DJ sets by Autre Ne Veut, Sandra Electronics (Regis and Silent Servant), Optimo, Jesse Cohen from Tanlines, and more. The fashion forward frontwoman of Chairlift will release her solo debut album Arcadia this April under the moniker Ramona Lisa.

Dâm-Funk will join Panda Bear for his sold out May 18 show at Warsaw. The Stones Throw-signed visionary has defined modern funk music and released the epic 7 Days of Funk with Snoopzilla (aka Snoop Dogg) late last year. Also on the bill is Torn Hawk, the alias of Luke Wyatt, who was recently featured in a Rising story on Pitchfork.

A Class of Its Own: RBMA Closing Night will be the official wrap-party for what is sure to be another epic month for the Red Bull Music Academy in New York City. The May 31 event at the Abrons Arts Center will feature Academy alumni from the last 15 years from across the globe, bringing the Academy story to life in event form. Joining the previously announced line-up are Nguzunguzu (Los Angeles), Nick Hook (New York), Studio Barnhus (Sweden), Pilooski (France), Lucrecia Dalt (Spain), May Roosevelt (Greece), Pursuit Grooves (New York), Sis (New York) featuring Eliza Coolidge of Knox, an alumni from the Red Bull Music Academy's 2013 NYC installment, and Electro Guzzi (Austria) who were featured as part of the Red Bull Music Academy's "Sounds Like" mini-documentary series showcasing forward-thinking artists and their unique approaches to music creation and production.

Tickets and the full festival line up are available at www.redbullmusicacademy.com/nyc.
