Berklee's Valencia Campus Opens Applications For Its Summer Programs And Launches New Summer Study Abroad For Credit
Berklee College of Music has opened the application process for this year’s summer programs to be held at its Valencia campus in the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Spain. This year, Berklee presents a six-week Summer Study Abroad program for the first time, giving undergraduate students from Berklee and other international music institutions the unique experience of studying at its Valencia campus, while earning credit towards their degrees. In addition to offering its hugely successful intensive Summer Performance Program again, Berklee will also be running two, five-day Symphonic Band Workshops in partnership with the government of Valencia.
“We are opening our doors for the fourth consecutive year to offer international musicians the opportunity to learn and perform with Berklee at our state-of-the-art Valencia campus during our comprehensive summer programs,” explained Guillermo Cisneros, Vice President for Global Initiatives, Berklee College of Music and Executive Director, Berklee in Valencia. “The new ‘for credit’ program enables students to broaden their global experience in a multi-cultural musical environment at the heart of the Mediterranean music scene.”
Berklee Valencia 2014 Summer Programs:
- Spain Summer Study Abroad (May 22 – July 4, 2014)
This intensive six-week program will offer both Berklee and non-Berklee students from around the world the opportunity to earn undergraduate college credit at Berklee. Students can choose to immerse themselves in one of three areas: music technology and production, music and entertainment business or liberal arts and Mediterranean cultural studies. All classes are taught by Berklee faculty from the Valencia and Boston campuses. The technological resources of the Valencia campus give students a dynamic and intimate environment in which to experience an enriching selection of courses and study with leading artists and professors.
- Valencia Summer Performance Program (July 21 –August 1, 2014):
Open to singers and instrumentalists, this comprehensive two-week course is designed to give students an understanding of what being an excellent musician entails. The program aims to improve and enhance the performance, theory, production and technology skills of musicians of all levels. Studying a variety of contemporary music styles, including jazz, Latin jazz and fusion, pop/rock, R&B, and Mediterranean music, students will spend time in the state-of-the-art recording studios, participate in ensembles and workshops taught by well-known faculty and visiting artists, and learn and network in a multicultural environment.

The Valencia campus summer programs follow Berklee’s revolutionary principle that the best way to prepare students for careers in music is through the study and practice of contemporary music. Students will not only have the opportunity to learn and perform at the state-of-the-art international campus, but also spend a summer in the vibrant, colorful and modern European city of Valencia – the crossroads of European, Latin American and Mediterranean cultural and musical traditions – and enjoy all it has to offer, from cultural, historical and architectural sites, to the night life and beaches.
