Taiwan rock band io, originally formed in Vancouver by three Canadian-Taiwanese, will be returning to their roots when they perform Canadian Music Fest as part of the "Hearing Taiwan" showcase on May 8th at Toronto's legendary venue, the El Mocambo. Te will also be performing at Johnny Jacksons on May 07 at 7pm. Presented by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID), Hearing Taiwan will feature three top acts from the island, including Golden Melody award winners Matzka, EDM-infused group RED and Modern Sino-Rock band io.

io's unique brand of "Sinorock" combines western rock music with Chinese elements. In 2008, io moved to Taiwan from Canada where they first gained recognition as the ICRT (International Community Radio Taipei) Battle of the Bands Champion in 2009. Their hit song "Real," a collaboration with world-renowned record producer/mixing engineer Mike Fraser (Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, and Metallica), would later be recognized as one of the Top Ten Songs of the Year by The Association of Music Workers in Taiwan.

io went on to become the first indie band to ever be nominated for both 'Best New Artist of the Year' and 'Best Band of the Year' at the 22nd Golden Melody Awards (Chinese equivalent of the Juno Awards) in 2011 where they performed live for 600 million television viewers. They have performed on some of Asia's biggest TV stations such as Star TV international and TTV, and were featured in a documentary film for The National Geographic Channel that was broadcast in over 35 countries worldwide.

The band has performed around the globe in landmark music festivals such as Liverpool's Sound City International Music Festival and Beijing's Strawberry International Music Festival, as well as shows in Seoul, Shanghai and North America.

Now in its 32nd year, CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK is recognized as one of the premier entertainment events in North America focusing on the business of music. The Canadian Music Week festival spans 5 nights of performances, with 1,000 showcasing bands at more than 60 live music venues in downtown Toronto. All convention functions take place at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre.
