A.V. Club And Honda Bring Great American Music Stories To Life With The Launch Of "Pioneering" Web Series

The A.V. Club-the pop-culture-focused sister site of The Onion, and Honda, in support of the redesigned Civic Coupe, are teaming up -to bring music fans "Pioneering", a weekly music video series that focuses on the stories of groundbreaking American musicians, as told by current-day artists.

The eight-part series, which debuts on The A.V. Club, follows critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Eef Barzelay, as he drives across the country in a Civic Coupe, exploring the launching points for some of music's most iconic artists and meeting up with other musicians along the way.

"Pioneering is a unique format for Honda and The A.V. Club to collaborate and deliver a series that music fans will love," said Mike McAvoy, President, Onion, Inc. "Honda and The A.V. Club are going coast-to-coast to unearth some great stories, introduce some talented musicians, and capture some one-of-a-kind performances."

"The Pioneering" road trip will include stops at Asbury Park (Bruce Springsteen), New York City (The Ramones and A Tribe Called Quest), Nashville (Dolly Parton), Detroit (The Stooges), Seattle (Nirvana), Los Angeles (Gram Parsons), and San Francisco (The Grateful Dead). At each location, Barzelay will interview great musicians who, through stories of their experiences and performing their own versions of the pioneering artist's songs, will celebrate the legacy of American musical heritage in a new way.

The debut episode of "Pioneering" will feature Mountain Goats in New York City, where they'll pay tribute to The Ramones. A new "Pioneering" experience will run every Monday through May 26.

To further bring music fans closer to the "Pioneering" experience, at the conclusion of the series on June 5, Honda and A.V. Club will host a concert at the famed Lincoln Hall featuring a surprise headliner. During the concert, fans can virtually interact with the headliner by socially voting on what songs will be performed during the concert using the #LoveToday and #Pioneering hashtags.
