The Looking Make Their Cutting Room Debut June 20th
Fresh off a season of playing venues like Joe’s Pub, Rockwood Music Hall, and WFUV’s “On Your Radar” Showcase, Todd Carter AKA The Looking is back for a special performance at one of NYC’s best listening rooms, The Cutting Room, on Friday June 20th at 7:00pm. Carter will be joined by his regular band of New York luminaries whose collective credits include playing with everyone from Norah Jones and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, to Andrew Bird and DJ Logic.
The Looking draws on a wide scope of inspiration including opera, punk rock, traditional folk, and psychedelic soul to create music that has been described as “intriguing....fascinating” (Collected Sounds), “eclectic and provocative,” (The Chronicle), and “like nobody else you have heard before” (IndieMusic.com). Carter’s credits range from singing the role of Siegmund in Wagner's Walkyrie at CAMI Hall and performing at Carnegie Hall, to playing NYC rock-club staples like The Bowery Electric and Arlene's Grocery.
On June 20th, The Looking will perform songs from his most recent release, Songs For a Traveler, an album that reimagines American music from the Plains of the 19th century and country ballads from the 1950’s, and morphs them into lush, dreamy soundscapes with hard rock edges. The Looking will also be premiering songs from an upcoming EP.
Opening this exciting night of music will be rising star Sylvana Joyce who has been praised by MTV and Time Out New York, and of whom The Huffington Post says, “Equal parts dynamo and siren swirling beneath a petite Eastern European exterior, lead singer and keyboardist Sylvana is basically a human carnival."
Be sure to make your way to The Cutting Room on Friday June 20th for musical performances that are sure to captivate and entertain.
