Circle7 "The Voice Are Back"
MAY 27th 2014 - PITTSBURGH, PA
If there is one person in the indie music scene that has the ability to craft the English language into a string of twisted emotion and deeply disturbing visions, it is Mark Thomas from the band Circle7.
Finding the darkest most dysfunctional ways to describe topics, in very subtle ways, seems to be his style. After talking to him about the new album Circle7 is working on, we discover that while the band has grown musically and Thomas himself has grown lyrically, he admits that his style remains.
"I've always been fascinated with emotions and the darker side of life. It's the things in life that we experience, that people don't want to talk about. That really puts a spin on a song and makes it both compelling and disturbing to listen to. When you hear a song and really pay attention to the lyrics, it invokes emotions. Sometimes it's emotions that we've buried deep beneath the surface." says Thomas
"One of the things I always try to convey is what I'm feeling at any given time. Sometimes I have to drudge up old experiences in my life, and sometimes they are a fresh as they can be. I always try to confront my deepest feelings, emotions and fears when I sit down to write."
Musically the band has admitted that things will be more technical for the upcoming album and will be something that most Circle7 fans aren't used to.
Thomas says "We aren't actively going for a darker approach but my lyrical style and life experiences that I've been confronted with during the writing phase is undoubtedly going to weigh in very heavy on the final product. While some of the subject matter includes standing up for things that you're passionate about, there is unmistakable darkness and sadness in some of the new material, as well as some anger. As a songwriter it's very difficult for those things not to filter through into your music when you feel them. One thing I know for sure is that I have an amazing group of guys in my band with me who know exactly how to craft the music to accommodate the emotion behind any lyrics I write."
While we have a feeling the new Circle7 album will be heavier, there has been no confirmation on this from Thomas or the rest of the band. However if the imagery that has begun showing on their Facebook and official website is any clue on what's to come, especially Thomas' own fan page (which shows an image of Thomas in a straight jacket with the words "the voices are back") we think Circle7 fans are in for a treat.
If you haven't yet visited their official website or Liked their Facebook page, we suggest doing so, so that you can stay up to date on album progress, snippets, and a release date.
