FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
COUNTRY ARTIST PHIL HAMILTON GIVES UP HIS LONG HAIR
FOR A CHILD IN NEED
ERICA PERRY, SINGER AND BEAUTICIAN ALONG WITH CHRISTOPHER MOORE, TOP HAIRDRESSER CUT LOCKS!
(May 27, 2014, FORT WORTH, TX) - Country artist, Phil Hamilton, a.k.a. "Philthy" has a signature beard and long hair that has given him an image known to fans that love his music around the country. Hamilton adopted his signature style long before it became cool among the Duck Dynasty gang and other famous people. His Philthy face appears not only on his merchandise, website and social media pages, but also on his tour bus which has been spotted traveling down the interstates over the years with drivers wondering…Who’s this Philthy guy? All that is about to change on May 27, 2014 when Phil Hamilton cuts his luscious rocker locks for a child in need. Hamilton will donate his hair to Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides vacuum fitted hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
"I have done many charity benefits, but the ones where children are involved tug at my heart the most. I want to give back and I always said when the day comes for a change, I would only cut my hair for a good cause. If this helps a child gain even a little bit of their self-esteem back after suffering hair loss, that's what it's all about." Hamilton said.
Hamilton cut his hair live today in Fort Worth on the radio waves at 95.9 The Ranch studio, and video the event for playback on The Ranch's video outlets and for other video avenues, however, his new look will not be debut until his Capital Bar show in Fort Worth, TX on Wednesday, May 28th. Fans will only be able to see the new do in person at the show. Fans who attend the show will be encouraged to be the first to Instagram, Tweet and Facebook Philthy's new look.
Philthy fans will get a chance to do their part and donate their hair to Locks of Love at the Capital Bar show and other upcoming Phil Hamilton concerts and have their hair cut off by Phil Hamilton and styled by fellow artist and hairstylist, Erica Perry, and prestigious hairstylist, Christopher Moore of the Christopher Moore Salon in Aledo, TX.
About Phil Hamilton: Hamilton is enjoying the success of three songs going to the tops of the charts from his second album RENEGADE ROCK N' ROLL. The album has produced three #1 singles including the Tom Petty inspired tune "Bad," "Running" and his feel good youth tribute "Back of a '73." The first single "You Can Have Me" was Hamilton's first top 10 single and the video remained in a strong rotation on CMT Pure for several months. Phil was nominated as Male Vocalist of the Year for the Texas Regional Radio Report Awards and for the Fort Worth Weekly Awards. He also won the Most Contributor Award for Big Star 97.com. His single "Hold on Tight" from LIVE AT THE WHISKEY GIRL SALOON peaked in the top 5 on the Texas charts. Hamilton played to a sold out crowd at the Whiskey Girl Saloon in Fort Worth where he recorded the live album. He will release a new single "Dirty Love" in June to radio from a his soon to be released fourth project.
This event will benefit Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides vacuum fitted hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated human hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns or injuries or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem or other dermatological conditions that result in permanent hair loss. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. The prostheses they provide help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling these children to face the world and their peers.
The organization, which began operation in 1998, provides the prostheses to children under age 21. These hairpieces require between 6-10 ponytails and take approximately 4-6 months to manufacture. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the national publicity that Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines, and television programs. It is estimated that children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have an opportunity to help children.
Donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness according to the following guidelines:
It must be at least 10”, clean and dry
It must be bundled in a ponytail or a braid
Bleached hair cannot be used.
Hair that has been dyed or permed can be used.
Monetary donations to Locks of Love are tax deductible.
