KUALA LUMPUR, 5 JUNE 2014 - Season 9 of the long-running Internet music series The Wknd Sessions will be launched on the 13th of June 2014. Ten noteworthy Malaysian and regional acts will be premiering exclusively on http://the-wknd.com over the course of the next ten weeks. Each episode will feature one artist, with one new music video released every Friday, Monday and Wednesday.

This latest season of The Wknd Sessions promises to highlight an exciting and eclectic selection of talents both new and established. Season 9 will feature live performances and interviews by prominent independent musicians The Venopian Solitude, Salam Musik, Pastel Lite, .gif, VMPRMYTH, Jerk Kerouac, The Cotton Field Scarecrows, Nao, Tres Empre and Memorial – all recorded in high definition and featuring The Wknd's instantly-recognizable sonic signature.

"We've deliberately taken a more challenging route this season, in terms of the curation of the artists and music", said Fikri Fadzil, founder of The Wknd. "The range of genres we're showcasing this time round is definitely wider than what we've done previously. We really want to show that independent music from Malaysia and Southeast Asia definitely has variety – from pop and electronica, to punk and metal and even noise!"

The teaser video for Season 9 launch is available for viewing at http://the-wknd.com/news/wknd-sessions-season-9-teaser/, giving a quick peek into what will be coming up.

With close to 100 independent artists and 300 music videos featured since its first broadcast in 2008, The Wknd continues to lead the way on its mission to introduce the best of the Malaysian and Southeast Asian independent music to the world.
