Harbourfront Centre Announces 2014 Summer Music In The Garden Concert Series - July 3 - Sept. 14

Bookmark and Share

The popular Summer Music in the Garden series, presented by TD Bank Group, returns to the Toronto Music Garden with a new season of free music all summer long. Summer Music in the Garden showcases an eclectic array of music that complements the beauty and calm of the Toronto Music Garden, and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach that inspired it. Taking place on most Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. and on most Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. from July 3 to September 14, Harbourfront Centre presents 18 free outdoor concerts with over 70 performers for the 2014 Summer Music in the Garden season.

Co-produced by Harbourfront Centre, in partnership with the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation and Economic Development and Culture Divisions, Summer Music in the Garden 2014, presented by TD Bank Group, is the perfect antidote to the rush and stresses of life beyond the garden. This year's season features a variety of musical styles including Western classical, South Asian classical, Japanese, Persian, Klezmer, North American traditional, First Nations, acoustic guitar and baroque period instruments. With international performers coming from countries including Israel, Spain, England, United States and France, and national talents coming from across Canada including artists from Vancouver, Victoria, Montreal, Toronto, Cape Breton and the Akwesasne Reserve in Ontario, the 2014 season will provide patrons with the opportunity to experience the work of some of the globe's most talented musicians.

Artists making their Toronto Music Garden debut this summer include Panache!, a new, all-female fiddling super group on July 31; the international trio Lalun, with its unique instrumentation and hypnotic music (July 6); the young acoustic guitar star Calum Graham (July 17), the Lafayette String Quartet (July 27), the Trillium Brass Quintet (August 10), the Sarv Ensemble (August 24), and the klezmer group Veretski Pass (September 4).

Audience favourites returning to the Toronto Music Garden include the Cecilia String Quartet (July 10), Gretchen's Muse (July 13), The Bombadils (August 7), banjo virtuoso Jayme Stone (August 14), Nagata Shachu taiko ensemble (August 21), TorQ Percussion Quartet (September 7) and Baroque cellist Kate Haynes (London, England), who returns with the fourth installment of her six-year cycle of Bach Suites for Solo Cello (August 28). She also premieres a new piece by Canadian composer Michael Oesterle (Montreal), commissioned for this concert by Roger D. Moore and Harbourfront Centre.
