For the fourth year now, the Underground HK is bringing to you PlanetRox China, the regional stop of a global contest that seeks to gather the best bands from around the world and take them to their stage in Quebec. There, they'll be playing at the Envol et Macadam, an established alternative music festival that's been kicking around for 19 years now. One talented band will have the cost of playing at the festival will be fully funded, being entitled to return flight tickets, but accommodation in a four-star hotel. Past winners include Noughts and Exes, Turtle Giants, and Shotgun Politics, all of which have established a name for themselves in the global music industry since the competition.

The final showdown will take place 10pm on June 14th, 2014 at Backstage Live Restaurant. The five finalist bands, Mr. Rocket Head, Turing Apples, Bamboo Star, Wondergarl, Les Gromechkos, will be fighting tooth and nail to impress the judges and land the grand prize. This year on the judging panel are Simon Gaudry, Director & Founder of Envol et Macadam (mastermind behind the competition itself!), Cliff Babbs, Music Director at HKGFM.net, and Chi Sin Hang (Hang Jai), Vocalist and Guitarist of local rock band ToNick.

The night promises good fun for everyone in the audience, who will not only be able to vote and play a role in determining the fates of these bands, but also feast their ears to a variety of quality music, from French rock to ‘classic rock with a contemporary edge’. Each ticket yields one vote and makes up 25% of the total score.

Advance tickets are $120, for sale at Backstage Live Restaurant and Tom Lee Tsim Sha Tsui branch, and Tom Lee Causeway Bay branch. Come along on 14th June to cheer and vote for your favourite bands!

To find out more about competition, watch the band’s promotional videos, and read the interview with the five finalist bands and judges profile on the Underground website.
