Video Games Meet Pop Punk On "The Odds And Ends Tour"
RANDOM (AKA MEGA RAN)
“One of the most prolific and innovative rappers of the 21st Century,” -Phoenix New Times.
“Random’s proven he can excel in storytelling, punchlines, poignancy, freestyling and, pretty much any other way you can measure an MC.”– LA Weekly
When LA Weekly named Random aka Mega Ran one of “Five Artists Who Will Be Big in 2014,” Ran instantly took a photo of the article and made it his default picture on Facebook and Twitter. “It wasn't to brag,” he said, “It was to keep the pressure on myself... I wanted to see it every day.” Pressure is no new thing for a man who spent his days teaching middle school, his evenings grading papers, and his late nights rocking stages.
In the past 5 years, Ran has managed to run through barriers like Mario with an invincibility star, from placing music in TV and video games to touring with acclaimed hip-hop stars like Homeboy Sandman and Open Mike Eagle to playing thousand-person festivals. “I'm on a mission to help bring hip-hop into a new frontier,” he says. With an unprecedented licensing agreement with gaming giant CAPCOM, and constant appearances on a variety of sites like VICE, Nerdist, The Verge, The Source and Game Informer under his utility belt, the mission is fully underway.
“D&D Sluggers seem to have found an approach that offers more than 8-bit gimmicks and comic-shop in-jokes.” —Bryan Reed
Geek Rock/Garage Pop act D&D Sluggers take the stage with Nintendo beats, a guitar and mic, ready to rock crowds. Using two Nintendo DS handhelds, funky guitar licks, combined with lyrics about life experiences and geek culture , D&D turns the room into a party inviting everyone to dance and sing to pop punk, new wave, and hip hop inspired songs and beats.
Ask him to describe his style, and he'll say “I don't rap, I paint the Sky Blew.” Skyblew uses his sincere, substantive lyrics & soulful sound to breathe life into a genre saturated with lies, darkness and gimmicks. He pushes the boundaries with his music and brings a new/unique flavor to the music world. The young artist, creatively incorporates video game and anime references/themes into his repertoire in a very unique way.
A frequent resident on some of the top music sites in cyberspace including 2DopeBoyz, DJBooth, MTV, HYPEFRESH Magazine, and countless others, as well as a selection by ReverbNation as a "Break Out Artist," Sky has shared the stage with some of the finest artists in the business, including: Kendrick Lamar, Slick Rick, Lupe Fiasco, Watsky and more. His exposure is growing exponentially on the regional, national, and international levels. Appointed times appear, and with the state of Hip-Hop today, we need more from SkyBlew. The future appears to be bright for the “ColorfulDreamer .”
