Music Row studio hosts a very special day for Girl Scouts from Summersong Studio 2014!

Summer at the Camp Holloway Girl Scout Camp is always fun! But this year, along with usual camp activities, one group of campers got to visit a Music Row studio where producer, Kim Copeland, worked with them to record a song they had written at camp.

Camp Director, Kathy Hussey is a successful touring singer/songwriter and long time songwriting mentor. She and Kim know each other from their days together as councilors at Camp Summersong. The two of them have wanted to offer this experience to the campers for a while, were able to pull it all together this year.

The group, of eleven girls, got to watch and participate in the recording session, hearing a song they had written come to life! First Kathy and the group sang their song to Kim and some top Nashville session musicians. They learned about the Nashville Number System and observed as a chart was written for their song. Then, after tracking (recording a musical track with drums, bass, piano, fiddle and mandolin), they got to go into the vocal booth and record their own voices on the track.

They also watched the mixing process and learned a bit about Pro-Tools and some aspects of engineering. Photographer, Bev Moser was on hand to capture some great photos to document their day, which really enhanced their “star” experience.

“I love helping young people express themselves through music”, says Kim. “It is just such a healthy and fulfilling way to share your feelings.” Kim has also worked with children through the Country Music Hall of Fame’s “Words and Music” program for many years. “I have worked with lots of very talented and many more famous artists at my studio, but this session ranks among the most rewarding and fun!”
