THE WELCOME MATT ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF ‘POP JUNK FLUFF And HYPE’
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - True to his prolific history of music making, San Francisco recording artist Matt Langlois, aka The Welcome Matt, announces the release of his latest CD POP JUNK FLUFF and HYPE on iTunes July 16, 2014. Written and recorded amid a creative high point that found Langlois scoring a modern-dance production, launching a video series, touring the US and signing a publishing deal, the new collection of songs showcase his signature brand of hook-laden indie rock.
Songs fromThe Welcome Matt's previous recordings have charted in the US and in the Europe Top 40, and been chosen twice for leading SF radio station KFOG’s annual Local Scene CD. Langlois recorded POP JUNK FLUFF and HYPE at Lost Monkey Studios in Hayward, CA, late last year, shortly after signing a deal with Wixen Publishing, joining an impressive roster that includes Tom Petty and Weezer
The 10-track collection —The Welcome Matt's eighth full-length release — is reflective of the musical zeitgeist in which Langlois lives through a lens of sensibilities shaped by a love of early David Bowie, The Clash and The Kinks. "'Pop Junk Fluff and Hype' is a spellbinding mix of styles and flavors, electro and alternative rock," writes The Ringmaster Review.
The arrangements on the self-produced POP JUNK FLUFF and HYPE call to mind Langlois's notable predecessors while revolving around an acutely modern-day concern with the pursuit of creative work amid challenging global conditions and fragmented societies.
How does one maintain integrity inside a culture of "Pop Junk Fluff and Hype"? Some tracks find Langlois lamenting the omnipresence of technology in modern life, consumerism and global warming (“A Hail Mary”) while casting a jaundiced eye at the fact government surveillance. Others, such as "Cast A Line" embrace reality as it is “despite the negative effects." "Mode Of Transportation" is "a fusion of power pop and indie/electro rock which plays like a mix of The Motors meets Cockney Rebel with a splash of Cheap Trick."
Through it all Langlois's solution continues to be to make art: "Let (creativity) Lead You"....
