The Stoneham Chamber Of Commerce Summer Concert Series Presents Its Second Concert With Two Acts: Preacher Jack And Jumpin' Juba

The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce began the 2014 season with the wonderful Middlesex Concert Band and after taking the July 3 off due to the Independence Day holiday, the Series returns this Thursday, July 10 with TWO separate acts: Preacher Jack plays the first half of the concert and Jumpin' Juba will perform in the second half after intermission.

Preacher Jack (Jack Coughlin) has been entertaining audiences for over five decades (and this summer celebrates his 55th year in show business!) with his classic honky-tonk/rockabilly music and energetic boogie-woogie piano playing. Preacher Jack's piano and unmistakable stage presence (and stories) provide such a memorable show, it's no wonder he has become not only a local legend but has established quite a name for himself through the years in the industry. Now signed to Bill Hunt's Cow Island Music, he released the CD Pictures From Life's Other Side in 2007. Jack has also recorded for Ken Irwin's Rounder Records and Black Rose Records (out of Saugus Mass). Influenced by people as diverse as The Hillbilly Bard Hank Williams to Liberace, from Mahalia Jackson to Jerry Lee Lewis, Jack's sets often reflected the mood he was in or (in most cases) WHATEVER came to his fingertips first. You can contact Jack through the following web pages: www.cowislandmusic.com or www.facebook.com/people/Preacher-Jack

Jumpin' Juba plays an engaging and upbeat mix of rootsy rock 'n' roll, blues, and Americana music. They have performed as a duo, trio, and quartet and this evening will be performing as a duo. Jumpin' Juba is new to the Stoneham Concert Series but are a great fit as they are veterans of outdoor concerts – in the summer of 2013 alone they played almost 30 outdoor family concerts in fine towns such as Avon, Wellesley, Milton, Hamilton, Burlington, Fitchburg, Weston, Acton, Topsfield, Sharon, Sturbridge, N. Attleboro, Newton, Leominster, Grafton, Carver, Reading, Norwood, Foxboro, Braintree, to name several out of many. Jumpin' Juba's sets are typically a mix of American blues-based classics from New Orleans, Memphis & Chicago, originals in those styles, a touch of old-time jazz, and a grab bag of popular tunes in various styles (such as Tex-Mex, Hawaiian, Caribbean, Latin). For more info, please visit band member Steve Hurl's website at stevehurl.com/gigs.html

In addition to the two great sets of music, the Chamber of Commerce will have a corn hole tournament on the common, which will begin prior to the concert at 6:30 p.m. Play It Again Sports will be running this double elimination tournament.
