Springfield, IL – Thomas A. Dorsey III will be attending The National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses’ 81st Session which will be held at the New Orleans Marriott (555 Canal Street New Orleans, LA 70130) beginning on August 2nd, 2014.

Thomas A. Dorsey III is the grandson of Thomas A. Dorsey, who is internationally known as the Father of Gospel Music and founder of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc. (better known as the Thomas Dorsey Convention). The NCGCC is the oldest and longest running gospel convention in the world, holding its annual sessions since 1933.

The week long convention will be comprised of various workshops, plenary sessions, concerts and a host of other activities for established and aspiring gospel artists and producers, spiritual worship leaders and speakers and more interested in the gospel music industry. Nationally recognized gospel music recording stars headlining the event’s concert series will be Kathy Taylor, Anita Wilson, Stephen Hurd, Greg Ganes and the Happy Guitar, Sara Jordan Powell, Chrystal Rucker and Vashawn Mitchell. Bishop Paul Morton, Pastor Albert Morgan, Bishop Albert Jamison, Pastor Charles Roach, and Bishop Wiley Taylor will also be preaching during the convention’s various worship services. The convention will run through Sunday, August 2nd to Friday, August 8th. Online registration is currently open for this year’s convention. For more information about the 2014 NCGCC and a complete list of the convention’s itinerary and performers please visit its official website at http://www.ncgccinc.com.

This past Spring 2014, Thomas A. Dorsey III launched The Thomas A. Dorsey Project which primary goal is to preserve the legacy of his beloved grandfather while also protecting the image, works, and reputation of Thomas A. Dorsey. Recently the project garnered support from Grammy, Dove and Stellar Award winning recording artist Donald Lawrence who issued a statement about how Thomas A. Dorsey profoundly impacted his career (http://mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=174536). In July 2014, actress and comedienne Kim Coles celebrated Dorsey’s life, triumphs and accomplishments on Quiztory, which is a new app that is part trivia and part history (http://www.spreaker.com/user/quiztory/tdiq-7-1-kim-coles). The project was also featured on All Christian News, a website for Christians which focuses on those who subscribe to the faith (http://allchristiannews.com/new-initiative-launches-to-promote-legacy-of-the-innovator-of-gospel-music).

Delighted to be participating in this year’s event Thomas A. Dorsey III stated, “Many of my fondest childhood memories are of me being at my grandfather’s side mimicking him as he directed choirs from across the country during the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc. I have always known that my grandfather was responsible for planting the seed which became the gospel music movement. I’m awe inspired by how the seed he sowed has become a vast forest that provides creative outlets for aspiring and seasoned artists, economic opportunities for many associated with the genre, and most importantly spiritual substance to those in need. I’m so excited to be attending the 2014 NCGCC because the Dorsey Convention was where gospel music began a national assent which has achieved worldwide recognition.”
